The 1968 unpleasantness always puzzled me. Even then I knew that the RATs were commie sympathizers, and I couldn’t figure out why the college commies would disrupt them.
Not that I complained; like Muslims killing Muslims it was a good thing.

My guess is they were sending a message "allow our communists radicals to enter into positions of power in the Dem party, or we will ensure you will never win another election"
