What has happened to the idea of checks and balances?
Historians will be scratching their heads in disbelief.
Checks and balances are inconvenient curbs to acting on the expediency of the moment. They prevent the statist from achieving his goal of throttling the individual in the name of the good of the collective. The fact that a society is made up of individuals and that what is bad for the individual is bad for society never seems to enter their mind. It is deliberate blindness though and not stupidity because they won’t admit that the good of society is not any part of their plans.
