The Fastest Facebook Friend I've Ever Had
Vocal Minority ^ | 7/6/12 | EricTheRed

Posted on 07/06/2012 2:49:52 PM PDT by EricTheRed_VocalMinority

My Facebook page is always alight with passionate political debate. When 75% of your friends consist of liberal-Democrat Jews, how could it not! Many a never-to-be-recovered  minutes have been spent pointlessly debating issues like the state of the economy, the Obama(Doesn't)Care ruling,  Wisconsin governor Scott Walker's recall election, presumptive GOP candidate Mitt Romney, and everything in between.

So, yesterday I got "friend-ed" by one of those aforementioned liberal-Democrat Jew types from college. Within minutes of accepting his request this morning, my news feed was adorned with liberal talking points and those annoying graphics purportedly debunking "GOP lies" and the "right-wing propaganda machine".

Here's one of those posts:

RushFirefighterQuote
Because I distinctly remember Rush saying this, and because it was being taken maliciously out of context, I responded to it:

I remember exactly when Rush made this statement. He was responding to a statement made by Obama or one of his spokespeople (Carney, Geithner maybe) who told a news reporter that hiring more police, teachers, and firefighters constitute *private* sector employment. Rush has no animus toward firefighters, as falsely implied by this graphic! His point was that firefighters make up *public* sector jobs and paying them doesn't contribute to the economy b/c, like any public sector job, paying them requires taking money out of the *private* sector via taxation.

Watch out for snippets like this that take people's statements out of context to paint them as something they're not.

Having checked the Rush archives after the fact, I discovered  it was David Axelrod who (along with Obama) said it. It was mid-June, soon after Obama ridiculously claimed that the private sector was doing fine and that it was the public sector was in trouble. Rush argued, correctly, that, like police and teachers, firefighters are mainly public sector jobs. In addition, while Obama and Axelrod (and Biden at one point earlier this year) were incorrectly claiming that there is a dearth of police and firefighters and teachers, Rush pointed out that these jobs are virtually all municipal and state responsibilities; the federal government should have little to no responsibility for such hirings.

That's why I responded to my very new very liberal Facebook friend. I knew he didn't know the context within which Rush made that comment.

One minute later he posted this retort:

If you're going to defend Rush, we really don't have anything to discuss.

So I wrote back:

OK, then. Adios.

And de-friended him.

So much for another day in Real-ville.

There are a lot of conservatives that complain about getting de-friended by liberal Facebook friends who weren't tolerant and open-minded enough to handle that someone else would have the audacity to have an opinion that doesn't match their own. I am one of them.

Well, here's an instance of me de-friending a liberal Facebook friend because of his political opinions.

And ya know what? I can live with that.

I respectively disagree. Everywhere is a place to present facts and defend them, including all the social media. In the knowledge age, it may the most important place of all.

yep.. I won’t accept any politics on my Facebook feed. any of those “friends” that post this quick are not defriended, but are removed from my active feed. It’s usually people that I grew up with, but haven’t seen in 30 to 40 years... we don’t even know each other now.

I don’t even bother with facebook. I had a MySpace a long time ago and haven’t checked it in at least three years. Amazingly, it’s possible to have relationships without submitting to these intrusive websites collecting personal data from me on behalf of their advertisers.

I refuse to waste my life with facefargue. I see how much time the wife pees away with absolute drivel and no way will I do that.

As for liberals, I make it clear I have no interest or respect for their opinions, so do not waste my time...........

The value of a Facebook account to me is that whenever I need to contact someone or find someone I can usually do it rapidly through Facebook. However, I’m not into cutesy pet photos, cupcake recipes or how the t-ball Cubs fared against their rivals. But, which Facebook account hasn’t befriended Harrison J. Bounel? That’s my entree to political posts!

FB has been a great way to promote my band and keep up with friends and relations. If I was still active in real estate sales I would use it to promote that too. I don’t post overtly political content.

The busybody liberals who post political crud get ‘unsuscribed’ from my feed so I and other friends don’t have to read or respond to their lies. They don’t seem to know the difference, though I don’t care if they do.

the obamistas are told to do seminar social networking.

(also remember “in your face” politics?)

The key is to have these loonies defended enough so that all the obamistas become isolated on a virtual island away from the civilized people. e-shunning them.

An in-law of mine posted some garbage about Republicans being against equal wages. I offered up a summary of why they were against the legislation. A friend of hers made some stupid, "Republicans are SO evil" remark, so I offered up more facts. She said, "That's not true!" I offered a link and more facts and her reply was, "This is 2012! I can't believe this!"

It's no fun debating people who can't come up with a response more compelling than "Is not!"

Facebook is my BREAK from politics. It’s pure friendship and keeping up with family for me. Nothing more — other than millions of those cute kitteh pics.

I hate it when someone taints it with their politics.

I will never unfriend someone for political reasons. I will blow them out of the water, but I keep them around for target practice. If they can’t take it, they can unfriend me, but I won’t run from a fight. Besides, I am more interested in showing the undecideds and afraid to speak up people on my friend list and on the lists of liberals foolish enough to post talking points that the truth exists and that it is possible to stand up to the bullies and shills on the left. I have no delusions about converting the Kool Aid drinkers, but there are still plenty of others out there that CAN be swayed, and THAT is where the victories are.

I just defriended a leftist atheist who claims she is a moderate agnostic—not defriended for that reason though.

This is a person I knew from high school, but lost touch with after Bush v Gore. She hasn’t gained any wisdom in those 12 years. She made some snide remark (along with a silly cartoon she penned) about conservatives she is friends with liking a cartoon about the Unaffordable Care Act. I can’t remember the exact wording of the cartoon that irked her, but Dummies was in the wording of it. In a different post, she linked to an article about how capitalism isn’t the best way. I couldn’t even click on it. I think it was from some leftist blog.

She friended me, out of the blue, several weeks ago, and I accepted which I figured was going to be a mistake. After I accepted her request, she never sent me a note asking me how things have been. What have you been up to, etc., which I thought was kind of odd. So it was no big deal to defriend her. It felt good.

Basically, most of the people I was friends with in high school are now simple minded liberals. Nice people, but no real thought about the consequences of what they are endorsing. There is no depth to their arguments.

One of them is so radical that I wouldn’t dare friend her. It would piss me off everyday to see her silly, leftist posts. As it is, I can see her wall as it is open. When I get bored, I will peek in out of curiosity to see some of the lunacy. Recently she was bragging about not only having tons of gender study classes, but also ethnic studies, queer studies—her term, class studies, and radical art.

So I’ve got a couple of high school friends on FB that support Obama. I’ve got a couple of acquaintances through my son’s Boy Scout Troop that support him. Most people on my friend list are probably apolitcal. I have my suspicions how some of them lean, but I’m not totally sure. I’ve got various conservatives on there too. Some family, some friends, some through Boy Scouts, some through FB, and some I’ve met on FR. I need to acquire more on the conservative side of the ledger though.

Basically, I’ve learned to post conservative minded articles, cartoons only for conservative viewing. I recently posted an article on FB that I read on FR and one of the high school liberal friends responded to that in a typical liberal way. It was regarding south of the border types, here illegally of course, getting tax credit for multiple children—some kids living in Mexico or other countries. Some made up. Some not even their kids. She replied that she was sure the IRS would do something about it and that if the Mexicans could do it, then American citizens were probably doing it too. The article was specifically about how the IRS is not doing anything about it. The fraud is costing billions of dollars. Anyway, how do you counter such simple minded, naive, excuse making reasoning? I just shook my head in disbelief and moved on. Nobody responded to the article or her post.

I think FB is kinda fun, but it’s a big time waster too. I have to stop myself from spending too much time on it. Still, I’m not always successful.
