Don’t feel alone. Many can relate to what you’re feeling.
As a kid, it used to be parades and kids’ games in the morning. In the afternoons, it was family get togethers with BBQ with all the trimmings including homemade apple pie and ice cream for dessert. Then there was the highly anticipated fireworks display in the evening. It was quite literally: Chevrolet, hot dogs and apple pie. It was a festive time back then with Old Glory flying from every street corner as we joyfully celebrated our independence and freedom. Maybe we just took it for granted that we would always be that way. The word “socialism” was unheard of and if spoken at all, it only brought thoughts of a defeated Nazi Germany.

Don’t take me wrong, FReepers; I love this country and, like all of you, I’m willing to fight, and die if need be, for her. But as for today, this special day of Independence, I have a sense of deep foreboding and feel a great sense of loss for our land. Here today, the Stars and Stripes are not flying. That flag is carefully folded and safely put away for another time. Instead, it’s the red, white and blue Texas Lone Star proudly waving in the warm, gentle, summer breeze; she honorably represents the fierce fight for independence in times past...she proudly waves practically in defiance of whats been wrought upon our cherished land. My fear is that the next flag will be the white and black: “COME AND TAKE IT”. My prayer today is: Lord, help America turn around from this evil path it has so blindly chosen and return back to what she was: the shining beacon of freedom to the whole world.

Happy Hot Dogs and Fireworks Day!!

That’s about all it means anymore. I’m not going to celebrate Independence Day again until this country has a sea change conversion to its founding values of liberty and limited government. I don’t expect to see that in my lifetime though.

Today while driving locally, I saw a small American flag lying in the road in the opposite direction lane. It was dirty, and had obviously been run over at least a few times. I did a U-turn, pulled up to it, grabbed it and brought it home to be with others that I have rescued in past years.

I always make it a point to rescue wounded flags that I see on the ground like that. It happens too often, and I can’t stand to see them treated like trash.

I have noticed that even the concept of freedom/liberty/independence is scoffed at now by so many “Americans.” We really are in deep do do. The dark cloud of collectivism is descending on us like a nuee ardente. This is horrible, but it also very exciting. We get the opportunity to press the refresh button.....

We live in interesting times.

I feel the same way, the fourth of july is more of a funeral to me, because it reminds me of all the control the Government has over our personal lives, there is a no good for nothing else Government puke over every aspect of our lives.

Funeral fits very good because we are seeing the death of a nation we considered the land of the free.

Im right there with you. These last few 4ths have not been as celebratory as previous years. I do not feel very patriotic. I do not feel the same when I see the flag. I feel alone because I feel like im one of a few who would do anything to preserve the constitution. Something needs to be done and people just don’t want to leave their couch and give up their creature comforts. It’s gonna take pain to get this ship righted and I fear the average citizen is not willing to feel said pain. I fear we have gone past the point of no return.

Since when is the gov't of this country the heart of this country? The 4th of July spirit of America doesn't reside in DC, it resides in the hearts of Americans who love freedom. Hated the last few weeks, but since it is America we have the chance to fix it in Nov. To hell with the the 70 million idiots that elected zero.

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? And it ain't over now." Bluto Blutarsky

Its over when Americans say its over and quit like the French.

Food for thought, the more I study the TRUE history of America, the more I can see the spiritual causes and effects and see God’s providential hand in history:

“Funeral fits very good because we are seeing the death of a nation we considered the land of the free.”

My daughter and I somberly prayed over our hot dogs today, then went outside to see some fireworks. That lasted about 5 minutes. Neither of us could get enthused. I came inside and turned on the tv. Katy Perry of “I kissed a girl and I liked it” fame was wearing a skimpy, flag design dress, singing to our troops with them cheering. I burst into tears and thought, “stick a fork in it, America is done.”

I will have to admit i don,t understand it all, why is it happening? but since i do read the Bible i guess it should not be such a mystery, we have been warned just like other nations before us were warned.

I believe all or many of Christs people will be refined with fire, and i believe the furnace is heating up, i don,t much like the idea of being here when it happens.

Being long gone seemed the best idea but i do want what ever God has in the next life so i will need to stay and get tried, besides i don,t think i have much choice in the matter.

I am just speaking for myself, i don,t know what road any one else is on.
