Romney Response To Supreme Court's Obamacare Ruling
TalkingSides.com ^ | 06/28/12 | CaroleL

The following is a transcript of remarks made by presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney regarding today's Supreme Court decision to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare).

As you might imagine, I disagree with the Supreme Court's decision and I agree with the dissent. What the Court did not do on its last day in session, I will do on my first day if elected President of the United States. And that is I will act to repeal Obamacare.

Let's make clear that we understand what the Court did and did not do. What the Court did today was say that Obamacare does not violate the Constitution. What they did not do was say that Obamacare is good law or that it's good policy. Obamacare was bad policy yesterday; it's bad policy today. Obamacare was bad law yesterday; it's bad law today.

Let me tell you why I say that. Obamacare raises taxes on the American people by approximately five hundred billion dollars. Obamacare cuts Medicare, cuts Medicare, by approximately five hundred billion dollars. And even with those cuts and tax increases, Obamacare adds trillions to our deficits and to our national debt and pushes those obligations on to coming generations.

Obamacare also means that for up to twenty million Americans, they will lose the insurance they current have; the insurance that they like and they want to keep.

Obamacare is a job killer. Businesses across the country have been asked what the impact is of Obamacare; three-quarters of those surveyed by the Chamber of Commerce said Obamacare makes it less likely for them to hire people.

And perhaps most troubling of all, Obamacare puts the federal government between you and your doctor.

For all those reasons, it's important for us to repeal and replace Obamacare.

What are some of the things that we'll keep in place and must be in place in a reform, a real reform of our health care system?

One, we have to make sure that people who want to keep their current insurance will be able to do so. Having twenty million people, up to that number of people, lose the insurance they want is simply unacceptable.

Number two, got to make sure that those people who have pre-existing conditions know that they will be able to be insured and they will not lose their insurance. We also have to assure that we do our very best to help each state in their effort to assure that every American has access to affordable health care.

And something that Obamacare does not do that must be done in real reform is helping lower the cost of health care and health insurance. It's becoming prohibitively expensive.

And so this is now a time for the American people to make a choice. You can choose whether you want to have a larger and larger government more intrusive in your life, separating you and your doctor; whether you're comfortable with more deficits, higher debt that we pass on to the coming generations; whether you're willing to have the government put in place a plan that potentially causes you to lose the insurance that you like. Or whether instead you want to return to a time when the American people will have their own choice in health care; where consumers will be able to make their choices as to what kind of health insurance they want.

This is a time of choice for the American people. Our mission is clear. If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we're going to have to replace President Obama. My mission is to make sure we do exactly that; that we return to the American people the privilege they've always had to live their lives in the way they feel most appropriate; where we don't pass on to coming generations massive deficits and debt; where we don't have a setting where jobs are lost.

If we want good jobs and a bright economic future for ourselves and for our kids, we must replace Obamacare. That is my mission, that is our work and I'm asking the people of America to join me.

If you don't want the course that President Obama has put us on; if you want instead a course that the Founders envisioned, then join me in this effort. Help us, help us defeat Obamacare. Help us defeat the liberal agenda that makes government too big, too intrusive and is killing jobs across this great country.

Thank you so much.

They can do whatever they want to you. You don’t get to use your ‘logic’ to decide who lives and who is murdered. If you have not gotten it already, your government has no logic.

The GOVERNMENT’s denial of care to targeted groups is murder of those people. There is no way to save yourself with better insurance or supplemental insurance when the government is dictating what doctors can and can not do in medical treatment. So you don’t get to decide based on your own ‘logic’ and are targeted for death via the denial of care. The denial of care decision is a death sentence to you whether they give you a slow death of the untreated disease killing you or a quick death with a death shot. It’s euthanisa either way.

Once they have targeted you for death through the denial of care, it will be considered merciful to give you the death shot rather than making you suffer a slow death from untreated disease.

What the heck happened?

You now have 100's of thousands of Gov't bureaucrats involved and these people need to get paid by you.

In the old days when it was just a transaction between you and your doc he could set a price based on what you could afford. Not the case at all anymore.

Obamacare is Romneycare

Well, not really.

Romneycare was designed for a state where the vast majority of the population wanted some kind of socialized medicine.

Romney is not for a federal one-size-fits-all.

It should be state by state.

I agree with this. Blue states will design socialized systems, red states will not.

That’s fine by me. The United States of America will not survive another 4 years of Obama.

About the statement at hand at #21?

That list of diverging legislation please?

” We will defeat obama and his effing “care”.....”

How do you defeat anything Obama with another Obama? Obamacare is Romneycare.

The ramifications on religious liberty and redistribution of wealth set forth by Romney in MA is different from Obama doing the same nationally HOW, now?

There is no difference but for the hysteria and fear vote running rampant.

Obama and his minions are pure evil. I mean evil from hell type of evil. They have their sights set on turning the USA into a Soviet style totalitarian empire. If that doesn’t bother YOU, then OK.

Not everyone who finds fault with your Romneycare indifference is voting for Obama, and no one here at freerepublic is.

Massachusetts had a Governor that was turning it into a leftist’s dream.

Is empty suit Romney, the socialist, and who started this BS, the man to get rid of anything on Day One?
Fair characterizations. However, do you think Obama will repeal Obamacare?

The point is, we all dislike Romney. But he's *WELL* in the lead of any other candidate opposing Obama. Unless you have some mystery candidate that can seize the lead away from Romney before Nov. 06th, then guess what? That jack-wagon RINO is the *ONLY* hope we have.

Yes it sucks. No, we don't like it. No, it isn't fair. There is no complaint, insult or factoid that can change any of it. It is, what it is.

I’ve decided we would be far better off without Romney and accelerating the down ticket conservatives.

Four more years of Obama might kill off the socialist RINOS destroying us and running our party, who have given us exactly what they wanted all along, another socialist, Romney, at the top of our ticket to move us into the future by moving us to the LEFT. This is the meaning of Romney.

A bunch of conservatives down ticket, dumping Romney, and a taking of the senate would make us true to our conscience and I believe pay off for conservatives. might be fair to our own conscience, and turn us into conservative majorities weaken the GOPE.

It won’t help my conscience a bit to allow Obama 4 more years.

would make us true to our conscience
At this point, my conscience be damned. It's not about *me*. Whether I can sleep at night is not the issue. It's only about unseating obama. I'm a single issue voter: dump obama. If I don't vote for the strongest opponent facing Obama on Nov 6th, then I would be statistically biasing the vote outcome in obama's favor. I will not allow that to happen. I don't care if the strongest opponent is the town drunk, he's getting my vote. Not voting against obama is the *only* thing that would shame me at this point.

You do what you like. If feeling good about your conscience is most important to you, then you take care to soothe your conscience. I can't and I won't.
