But of course. I could have told you. Sometimes I miss my “home” states of TN & AL. Miss the slower pace, the food, neighbors, and the smell of Honeysuckle in the evening. Besides the people don’t talk funny like they do up north.

I'd say it's more rural vs urban than North vs South.

As the song goes - "I'm from the country, and I like it that way."

There are plenty of places across our great land that have pride in their community and still hold to the values that or forefathers had.

Obviously these folks think the south is the only place these things happen. Not true. We don’t talk about the southern spirit we talk of the western spirit.... the need to build and innovate. Where a man is a man and his word is his bond. Where it matters not what you have done or where you are from but rather what you are willing to do, what you are willing to stand for and fight for.

Two things that Voge got wrong...

...plant the seeds for American democracy.
We're a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. America has democratic elements.

Christ was about liberty, the rule of law, consent of the governed and majority rule. Sovereignty came from God.
Again we're not a democracy which is all a democracy is.

If majority rule were the precept to be followed we would all be worshiping Moloch, Baal or some other false god.

“the South was right on everything but slavery”

That’s a pretty big “but” that will always muddy the water anytime anyone tries to discuss these kinds of things sensibly.

The funny thing is that today at least 75% (90% in MS/AL) of white native southron are GOP voters.....my Reconstruction fighting ancestry would be amused how the parties have become the opposite of what each other once was

Nowhere else in the country comes close

Being southern is an identity from Texas and Oklahoma to whats left of Virginia

Anyone from here gets it.....as do plenty who move here.....it is truly a blessing to be American and from Dixie.......ironic we are the last to cling...bitterly i might add.....to the whats left of American traditional culture when we were once rebels basically.......funny how history unfolds

read the book agree with much of it find they reasonably document the question raised by Judge Hand concerning the 14th Amendment. and it’s constitutionality. Col. John Eidsmoe -in his works concerning our Constitution reference Judge Hand and Jaffree v. Mobile County,1983 ( p.134 n.2 Christian Legal Advisor.,John Eidsmoe Ed. Mott Media ,1984)compare to what the Kennedy’s wrote of the 14th Amendment.

sigh... you should have known better than to try. Though conservatives take pride in saying we deal in facts, not emotions, on the north and south subject some stereotypes will be held by both sides forever.

the south today HAS moved from God

I live in Dixie now, and I tell ya, while people all say they love Jesus...and they DONT say that in the North, you would be hard pressed to see it in their lives

people who claim to be Baptists drink, smoke, sleep around, if you go to a singles website, all the BAPTIST women want to meet you in a bar for drinks first

soem insist on knowing what a good kisser you are first before they agree to date you.

Honest, I fell out laughing when I was asked that one, but it’s true, more than once. ( I kind of agree, but I would NEVER have said it that way)

But Bible Belt?

No, growign liberal Christianity. STILL, more Christianity than New England, I will admit, but Bible Belt??

stretch pants, more like.

In fact, in most of the Baptist Churches, about 40% of the congregation is all us Northerners. That was true of the 3 Baptist Churches I tied until I stayed in the last one for the last 18 months

We became Southerners in 2010 when we moved to Tennessee from California. We are so glad to be in the Bible Belt! I know it sounds backward, but the south is much more civilized than California, NY, etc., when it comes to the issues that matter in life.

The South is about American values.

Amen. I'm in Red Hampshire (spit), and the locals always cop an attitude when I make reference about 'returning to America' in a few months...New England and the south/midwest...two COMPLETELY different countries.

“the South was right on everything but slavery”

This constant association with the South and slavery pisses me off. The North had slavery, too, and Lincoln did not free the slaves, the 13th Amendment did.

The so called southern anthem was written and performed in New York city.

The symbol recognized around the world is the US flag.
