“This area of Memphis is very conservative. No state tax.”

I’ve been looking at Tennessee... love the No state tax part! I was thinking about Johnson City as it’s close to the mountains, but someone on another thread was just telling me that gays/liberals are really gaining in the area and that it could be moving in the direction of being another Asheville, NC.

Another thing about TN were some posts about police departments in the middle counties of the state confiscating cash from travelers who could not “prove” that their money wasn’t drug money. One poster said that I-75 from Chattanooga to Knoxville was nearly a “police state.” And there was another thread that said that Tennessee has made an arrangement with the TSA to let them randomly stop any vehicle for a search with no cause.

I was leaning toward Tennessee at the time, but reading some of those threads made me really start looking at Oklahoma again. As a Tennessean maybe you could give some thoughts about the state. On the Tennessee forum on http://www.city-data.com/forum/ people seem to really love your state!

I'm actually a transplant from the L A area. The people are great, but weather is from Hades. I love it because my family is here and the small town atmosphere. Everyone is either related or knows someone that you know. I don't see that in Oklahoma. Good food here, but then there is Van's Pig Stand. I don't think until you actually live somewhere you really know whether it is right for you personally.
