You’d be surprised at how even closed communites will gossip. Which brings me back to where are all the newspaper stories about Sr. coming back to his old stomping grounds and introducing his son to all his old cronies? The Society page was much more in vogue back then than now so you know there had to be something written up on him unless the Dunhams were keeping it all hush-hush what with paying for him to stay in their apt building and everything. Then there’s the Punahou school newspaper. Surely, they had one - Oooh, you all remember little Barry, well, welcome him back from Kenya, uh, Connecticut, uh Indonesia, uh somewhere to our happy family again (aloha, Barry!) and his daddy, King Obama will be our guest speaker at the assembly on Friday!!! Of course, there’s the board meeting minutes and agendas that would name him as recieving a scholarship, not that any will ever being seeing those.

That is another relatively significant period for purposes of the analysis of who was where.

There is a picture of Stanley, Obama Senior, and a boy ("Christmas Tree Boy") in a room with a Christmas Tree and presents. That picture purportedly dates from Christmas, 1970. The features of the boy merit careful study. The blow ups and comparative ageing pictures indicate that the boy is not Barry. He has the recessed chin that is clearly apparent on the larger darker boy in the baby picture; also the chin and other features readily apparent in the frontal facial picture of the man who uses the name Roman Obama.

So news reports or other information about the boy of that period might add to our store of knowledge of the events.

Barack Sr *did* speak to a class at Punahou actually, when he showed up around Christmas 1970 after J E Hoover had died and the FBI file on F M Davis was finally closed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barry took at least one year off between 5th and 12th grade, maybe a semester in Kenya, maybe he he went to San Francisco as an Indonesian exchange student. He may have been boarding at Punahou as a foreign Kenyan student for a while. I think any of this possible and if it were true I don't think the Punahou community would be talking about it.
