This reminds me of a couple weeks ago I said I had brought 40 lbs. of sugar on sale to put up and a FReeper posted back that I should skip the sugar as it is poison.
“...I should skip the sugar...”
LOL. We have a stockpile of sugar too, maybe 75 lbs or so at the moment. We use only a little, but it is necessary for some things, and in moderation sugar is ok. We would all miss it if we had none available.
We also have some raw local honey and we keep some maple syrup on hand. Don’t know that I will stockpile the maple syrup though...sugar and/or honey is a lot less expensive.
If it is just for adding sweetness, I use Stevia...I don’t need the extra calories at the moment.
The slave trade was based on sugar cane.
Make your own judgement from history about the value of things. I never heard of a war fought over beef or corn.
I can get protein and carbs easy from the ground around here. Even if they suck.
But I can't grow coffee, I can only grow some spices (I do have more than most), and sugar from starches is hard.

Probably one of the most important things that one can store up is powered greens, like barley grass or wheat grass powder.
A big spoon of that will supply all the phytochemicals that your body needs for the day.
Another thing is Green tea.
Another is coconut oil.
Can’t afford for your health to go ‘south’ along with law and order.
