Magic Jack accounts get set up with e911 to indicate an address for emergency calls; the user is responsible for that.

Some of these dispatchers don’t know their hineys from third base, and whatever the calling number appears to be, that is where they will send the SWAT to an “I killed my kids” call. There are web sites out there that let you make calls spoofing the calling number.

The relative virtues of setting e911 to know where you are if all you can do is hit that button on your phone, and the dangers of being SWATted through spoofing, have to be weighed on an individual basis. There’s no one right answer.
