Around here, 30 minutes into a power outage, you can hear 5 or 6 gensets running. Those without power hang out with those with power until power gets restored.

Parties seem to form spontaneously, if there isn't a downpour and high winds.

Protocol is for those without gensets to provide adult beverages.

Hawaii is like that. Has to be with the primitive power grid. Damn near anything will knock it out, and there is no backup.

Have not had to use my Honda yet, but nice knowing it is there. No idea who else here has one, or how long their cords are. Reminds me it is overtime to run the thing for a bit.

As I have said before, in the event of a major breakdown/catastrophe, you have maybe six hours before the shelves are stripped bare.

ANYONE who doesn’t have two weeks (at least) of provisions set aside will be in serious, serious trouble.

Three dozen eggs and two cases of baked beans? What’s that gonna cost you? Maybe thirty bucks, and it could SAVE YOUR LIFE!!

Here in NJ last October lost power for 3 days because of
freak blizzard which topple trees onto power lines , some
people I know in CT lost it for a week

No rioting, looting, arson, etc....

I’m kind of surprized no night vision goggles or binocs on his list. They can be had for under $300. Something on my list to buy soon.

I hear that!!! Last week our neighborhood lost power for about 2 hours, right around dusk. Within 10 min most of out cul de sac was in my front yard (not sure if it was because we are in the center, or because my dear neighbors took pity on my 8 mo pregnant waddles and didn’t want to make me walk). We promptly had someone with a phone playing pandora radio and my phone was playing the local police scanner. Meanwhile... Every man managed to find their way through their dark homes to their dark refrigerators and returned with beer. No stubbed toes. The beer tracking ability in the male is very good. ;)
No looting, no shooting, just a bunch of kids playing in the yards after their usual bedtimes, and random spontaneous block party.

The really cheap NVGs are Gen 1 and are made in Russia or China and some of them emit unsafe levels of radiation. Be careful about what you buy. Also, they require batteries, so in any EOTWAWKI scenario, they will only be useful until battery supplies are exhausted.

If anyone is serious about buying NVGs, get Gen 3 or 4. Expensive, but well worth it.

I have night vision. I never use it. Given some time to adjust to darkness, I find it's easier to do without it.

Speaking of eggs, one of the few useful things I got from that Doomsday Preppers show was that if you coat eggs with food grade mineral oil they will last at least 9 months with no refrigeration. I'm going to have to give that a try. Might be good to buy a couple 5 dozen packages, and rotate them out.
