Our kids were bringing lice home from camp. The first year we tried the over-the-counter stuff and it was worthless. Then someone told us about Licenex shampoo. Also washed the clothes and sheets and EVERYTHING in it. Also put in a spray bottle with water to spray the pillows, carpet, etc.
The lice have built up immunities to the OTC stuff. But the Licenex works by attacking the critter’s body (exsoskeleton?) - eats away the calcium(?) in the body. Also eats away the eggs and larvae so they die.
I’m not sure how a tick is built, but it might work on them. After the fact. The Licenex is expensive, but it sure does the trick. (3 years now! But last year they came home lice free - they were VERY careful not to share hats, helmets, etc.).

You know that Licenex stuff sounds like this stuff called DE or perma-guard that I bought for my garden as a fertilizer and nutritional supplement for myself and loved ones(amazing at growing out fingernails fast and it is suppose to rid the body of unbeknown parasites and have all kinds of other health benefits), but it has a rep as a bug killer too. I got it in a 50 pound bag for about $21. I just read that it works on ticks. These are good sites about it. It can be bought on the net or at the places listed on the site below. It sounds a lot like the expensive licenex stuff, but if pretty cheap. Your post reminded me about it so I looked up a site. I got my 50 pound bag at a place not too far away that sells all different things to farmer. What I am doing is sprinkling it all around the area of the garden, not just in the soil, to rid the area around the garden of them. Don't know if it will actually work but worth a try. Sounds like it might work in a house too, if necessary (God forbid).
After looking up sites about it again, I learned all kinds of new things about how good it is for you internally too. Make sure you get the right brand, perm-guard, as it is the purest.
