When I “step back” and look at the whole breadth of left-wing strategy and tactics, things like this fit in so well.
a) Either way, it causes division (as it is here) amongst the right.
b) Either way, it provides a story that can be used to brand people on the right as crazy and ignorant.
As a common thread across all the left’s strategy, there is the lie. Not only does the left accept lying by their operatives, it’s the foundation of every plan and pronouncement. Once they get enough young American’s indoctrinated through the educational system (which they now have) they have enough popular acceptance of lying by the general public that they can release official press statements that are bold-faced lies, and it’s simply thought of as “rough-and-tumble” politics. “Oh, both sides lie”.
