Young adults with bachelor’s degrees are increasingly scraping by in lower-wage jobs — waiter or waitress, bartender, retail clerk or receptionist, for example

A degree doesn’t equal talent and work ethic. Half of the college graduates don’t deserve to even work at McDonalds.

I graduated high school in the early 80’s - even back then it was drilled into everyone’s minds that you needed a college diploma because having a high school diploma was useless.

A college diploma is the new high school diploma - that is the educational systems plan...

I majored in Eng Lit and graduated in the mid ‘80’s. It took me 5 years because I worked 30 hours a week...Did borrow about $2,500. The only thing I really was good at was reading/writing. I knew I'd have to start at the bottom and figure my life out. I drove to LA in a 17 year old car and $300 in my bank account. I had a series of odd room-mates. I got a nice receptionist job for a company that produced trade shows. I made friends with the head writer and would do extra work for him on my own time. I didn't have much $$$ to go out to dinner. I worked my way up in different writing positions, finally got a good paying job as a story analyst at a large studio. It was hard. Every decent career is hard. It's hard to be a nurse. It's hard to be a plumber. Not everybody should go to college. Some people are very, very good waiters and make a decent living. The world needs talented craftsmen. I'm afraid the kids that were put through the self esteem movement were done no favors. All this reality is overwhelming them, because they have been on party time for the last 22 years. That they voted for Mr. Cool and Hope and Change must be bugging them just about now. I hope some wake up and vote him out. It is their best option for a decent job.
