Carol Stream here.
A while back that Gander Mountain up in Hoffman Estates had mil-surp 12 gauge 00 buck for 3.79 a box. Bought it cheap, stacked it deep.
They had a pile of soft point 5.56 for about 4.00 a box, too. Did the same.
Last summer a buddy of mine and I grabbed some of those reflective vests, hard hats, clip boards, and radios. Then we took a laser rangefinder and staked off likely avenues of approach. A stake with a red flag is 100 yards, yellow is 200, blue is 300, and so on.
It’s amazing what you can get away with if you look the part...

God only knows I wish I had a 300 yard LOS to any of my approaches. Then again in a frame house I'm kind of glad it is bad rifle territory.
If things get too out of control I told my wife to grab the kids and head straight North to my brother in laws horse farm. Don't wait for me, don't worry about pulling the kids out of class. My advice to her was that if she even began consider that it is a good idea just grab the kids and go.
If you wait until everybody thinks it is a good idea to start running 94 is going to be a parking lot.

LOL! I also keep a reflective vest, clipboard, and hardhat handy.
It is amazing how effective that is.
