I remember the riots of SFO. Was at Scoma’s and we were told by the valet not to go to Union Square and get off the piers as there rioters coming.

Missed em by 10 minutes and listened to KGO describe the whole thing.

Next day saw pics in the news of the aftermath. Terrible.

This past Wednesday (April 4) I was in a grocery store checkout line and suddenly about 4-5 goons, thugs, whatever you want to call them appeared in the line behind me. One of them spotted on a nearby magazine rack the Newsweek magazine with the title “An American Tragedy” and Trayvon Martin’s picture (as a young boy) on the cover, flicked the magazine, and muttered something about getting “a T-shirt.” They they started crowding — all of them, I don’t know which one of them was actually in line to purchase something — up to me awfully close, and one of them started trying to peek at my debit card as I took it out and used it to make payment. I put space between myself and them as soon as the cashier handed me my bags and got out of there. They didn’t follow me out but were sort of muttering and looking around.

They reminded me of the thugs I saw wandering loose and looking hostile the weekend before the healthcare bill vote in March 2010. They were in the neighborhood as a pack, looking very mean, muttering, and coming up to people as if to chase them off, coming just close enough to make people look nervous and walk a little faster. The sight was horrible to behold.
