Gun owners are the largest cohesive group in the USA

Not true. I would call your attention to the antics of the black folks throughout the country in response to the killing of a (possible) thug. Don't see anyone getting worked up when the police or the ATF kill a gun owner or an "arsenal" is seized. Don't see whites getting all full of phony outrage when a black kills white people (happens all the time - the killing that is)

And I doubt that any of you would bring up such idiocy if ever questioned by an LEO.

I don't know who you are, what your background is, your political persuasion, nothing...

But I will assure you, and you can take it to the bank, that there are a great many patriots on this forum that would make that statement to any damned LEO that has the stupidity to ask about the whereabouts of weapons, when said LEO is preparing to seize or has been told by his government goon leaders to ascertain the whereabouts of said weapons.

I know damn well I would...I would lie to any snooping POS that started inquiring about my weapons.

LEO or not...I would even lie to the damned president about it.

I would lie to you about it.

And, by the way, all my weapons fell off my boat while I was fishing last year.

Lost 'em all...every one.

All I have left is a rusty pocket knife, and it was made in China.

You’ve made yourself clear but I don’t think its the message you think you are communicating.

BTW, It has nothing to do with the boat.

No, I do not recall reading any of your posts for the last ten years. I may have but I don’t remember (I am, after all, an OldPossum and memories tend to slip nowadays).

Sorry if I made it sound that way, after all it's not like I'm the divine voice of Conservatism, whose writings must be committed to memory by all. People don't pay much attention to my ramblings anyway (and might be smart not to).

But I think on the gun issues we are pretty much in agreement, as for the guns "falling off the boat" thing. That joke has been around longer than Freerepublic. I don't think anybody would seriously say that. It's has just kind of become shorthand for "lie". So when one of us says that if the day ever comes that we are told by the government to register or turn in our guns we are going to say they "fell off the boat". We really mean that we are going to lie and claim our guns were stolen, sold, lost, destroyed, got damaged and were thrown away, whatever, as long as it's believable (unlike the boat thing) and the authorities would have a difficult if not impossible task of proving otherwise.

My husband and I just finished taking the Concealed Carry class required for licensing in Wisconsin. Our intructor advised that each of us in the class be sure to get a $1 million umbrella policy and to discuss whether it covers our guns. As for himself, he just upped his insurance to $3 million because he also carries the liability of all the students he has instructed.

He also suggested that we have the names and phone numbers of 2 attorneys in our wallets and programmed into our cell phones that we had previously discussed gun issues with and who had agreed to defend us, if we should ever have to use our weapons.

He guaranteed that if we should ever have to fire our guns at a person that it would be a $1 million dollar issue before all was said and done.

Seems like good advice to me.

BTW, It has nothing to do with the boat.

I still laugh when Hommer Simpson says, "Doh!". Call me a simpleton. But the reason it stays funny for me starts with a newcommer to FR some time back that stated, "With all the reckless boating enthusiasts here at FR you'd think there would be a ping list." Another person once asked, "Why do you idiots all take your guns on boating trips? It's not like you can fish with them?" I replied simply, "What else you gonna use for an anchor?"

I still laugh at that and the occassional question about why everyone claims to have lost their guns in a boating accident.

Sorry, Possum. Call us immature young punks. But I still get at least a smirk and try to be the first one on the forum to post about my boating accident.

But I don't laugh at farts.

It has nothing to do with the boat.

Of course, I know that the analogy is shorthand for resistance. I just think it's a stupid way of expressing the issue.

But, then again, I get tired of worn-out expressions and that one is the epitome of "worn out."

There must be more clever ways of framing the matter.

Attack ALL gun owners and see what happens. 15 million requests for background checks for gun purchases were processed this year. 140,000 checks was the record for one day. I don't know how many gun owners there are in the USA but it must be between 100-200 MILLION. Let Boama attack them and see what happens.

And after thinking about it for 30-some seconds, I’ve decided that I’ve expressed my viewpoint adequately. If you don’t understand, well, what can I say? Except “adios.”

FYI: the “boating accident” line is used a LOT. Funny at first, it’s been used to the point of being really annoying - as in one thread may have a half-dozen references, and that happening a few times every day.

There is one rather prominent poster here who had to take his boat into an unscheduled port call in Mexico, and had to throw several weapons overboard because it was perferable to spending several years in a Mexican prison for having illegal weapons.

Did your homeowner insurance company require make, model, caliber, serial number & barrel length for each one of your firearms? Mine did and I told them to get lost.

My gun insurance consists of safe, deadbolts, alarms, and that the number of people who know can be counted on one hand.

No. Instead, I have a liability umbrella and a total contents value. The proof of my weapons and all my belongings from clothes to furniture to weapons and pets is on a video tape which gets updated every two years (or with large new purchases). The video tape is in the safety deposit box.

If there is ever a loss, I have the video to prove the contents that are insured. I recommend this to everyone.

You forgot to add that the firearms insurance must also include free birth control... cause if there are no kids... then they can’t get shot ;)
