A Sanitarium Made of Gullible Saints.

The wife of a close friend of mine returned from lunch with an older, female, Tea Party supporter and immediately had to tell me all about it.

“She was 100% a Santorum supporter,” my friend’s wife said.

I of course am fascinated by this, so I couldn’t wait to find out two things. “Why?” and, “Did she stay that way?”

You see, my friend’s wife is a no nonsense, salt of the earth, Catholic Tea Party heroine. She’s one of those women without whom the Early West would have ended up as a an American version of Afghanistan. You know, like inner city Detroit, Michigan or the boarded up parts of Kansas City. Those women were as strong as the men, diligent to a fault and made sure that basic values of goodness, hard work and integrity defined their progeny.

“Her entire support for him was about religion. When I asked her what Santorum had actually accomplished to make her think he should/could be President, her example was that he helped stop gay marriage from being stopped or adopted in some state.”

I’ve noticed an inordinate number of religious-ists who continue to present two arguments for Santorum. Namely:

* He’s a good Christian man of strong moral character, and, * Newt Gingrich cheated on his wives

If he just sat there for four years while the rest of us cleaned up the mess, it would still be an improvement.

It does sum up his support fairly well. A large number of people want someone they believe they can trust first and foremost.

I don’t get it! Most folks don’t give up on Hollywood, would never part with their TV, and don’t seem to give a hoot about what their kids are exposed to at school.
They have no problem absorbing the culture.
But with Gingrich and Santorum, you are right, they are under the microscope.

More excerpts from the article, which is really worth a read..

“My wife’s friend pointed out to this extremely nice conservative lady that A) A President couldn’t pass a Federal anti-gay marriage Amendment only the states could, and B) that had nothing to do with the top 20 most important functions of a President. She AGAIN asked this lady what had Santorum had done to turn any economy around, get rid of government programs or unravel the messes of BOTH Bush and Obama?

“I don’t know how Santorum has done it, but he has completely hoodwinked these people into thinking religion is the #1 issue facing our country. She finally agreed that the economy and government control over EVERYTHING was the biggest threat our country faced. When I asked her who would do the most damage to kicking liberals out of Washington she looked like she was shocked at her own answer. Newt Gingrich.””

“... Unfortunately, just as those sensitive to race were dead wrong in thinking that Obama would HELP race relations, the truth is that Santorum’s approach as a fire brand preacher will end up dividing Americans even more, not winning them to his cause.”

"What about Santorum? Is adultery worse than lying, greedy and unscrupulous politics that was called “unprincipled” by the backbone of the Tea Party in Pennsylvania in 2006? Does talking about “religion” make him any better of a person than Jim Bakker, Ted Haggard, or Jimmy Swaggert if his personal example of declaring he is a principled, pro-life candidate while not just endorsing – BUT CAMPAIGNING FOR an openly pro-partial birth abortion candidate?

Why does that make Rick a more “righteous” candidate? Or have ANYTHING to do with skills it takes to be President? Or getting elected?

However, Santorum married a woman that slept (out of wedlock) with a man 40 yrs her senior and an abortion doctor at that...so should we forgive her sins? was she moral? her affair went on for six years.

IF, IF, IF we could just get 1/2 of Santorum supporters to consider and answer that question, Newt would be the winner. I just keep trying, like I know you do, every way I can. the slog is painful and slow..

I do not care which is more righteous. However, I must be in the other half - seeing Santorum as the better choice. In spite of having to vote in the Senate, his ACU rating is as good, or in his last year, better than Gingrich’s. The author seems to believe this is all about blind faith. It is about what we, the voters, believe to be our best chance to beat Obama and then right the country.

We are not saying that Newt is bad, simply that we find Santorum a better choice. I have already cast my ballot, so convincing me is meaningless. Newt will have to find a way to convince people who have not yet voted that he is trustworthy to turn this around to any degree.

Santorum is the Obama of the Right. Somehow Santorum has managed to cultivate the same kind of zombie-like fan base who project onto him their imaginary hopes, dreams, and idealizations of the man they wish Santorum to be.

"Is she on the ballot?"

Her husband is, who has said that Newt's past sins pretty much exclude him from qualification for the office of President. Apparently, past sins, forgiven by Christ Jesus, still pertain to character assessment, ongoing, no matter how long ago they occurred, or how much the person has changed or repented. By that standard, The Sanctimonium Standard, Karen is still a fornicator, sleeping with an avowed abortionist. It doesn't matter if has repented, changed or not, or hasn't done it in years, and regrets it very much. She is still who she was back then, a fornicator, sleeping around outside the sacrament of marriage, and Saint Rick is married to her. Let's be clear. Santorum has set the standard for past sins and forgiveness, who it applies to and who it doesn't, no one else has. He set it. He needs to be measured by it.

I don’t know how to fight against that kind of mass self-delusion. It’s creepy twilight zone stuff. Any ideas?

“... Unfortunately, just as those sensitive to race were dead wrong in thinking that Obama would HELP race relations, the truth is that Santorum’s approach as a fire brand preacher will end up dividing Americans even more, not winning them to his cause.”

do you remember when Obama was campaigning, how everyone was saying he would right our society of past sins, we would be a post racial society if he were elected. A few people understood then, I know rush and mark were among them, that obama would make race relations worse. Just like santorum will augment religious issues and morality issues into even greater divisiveness, and guess who will get portrayed as the hateful judgmental unforgiving religionists? We'll have daily cries of hate speech against Christians.

Santorum supporters need to wake up. I hope you read the entire article, even the links are very good.

James Dobson, has said of Callista: We can't have an adultress in the White House. To him, like most of Sanctimonium's supporters, Callista is still an adulterer, but Karen, for some reason, is not still a fornicator, sleeping around with an avowed abortionist.

This zombie-like Santorum fan projects the following hopes, dreams, and idealizations on to Rick Santorum:

  1. Rick Santorum is not Barack Obama
  2. Rick Santorum is not Mitt Romney
Oh, wait, those are both facts, not projections. My bad!

Just for the record, I'd be fine with Newt as the nominee also.

Of course. He's a caricature of religious zealotry that Leftists like to accuse Conservatives/Republicans of being. Santorum as the nominee would be very damaging to Conservatism and alienate a great many people. Likewise, Romney is a caricature of the rich country club corporate raider stereotype that the Left also likes to smear Republicans with.

I hope you read the entire article, even the links are very good.

Yeah, I caught onto that blog a few days ago when I ran across a few links posted at LI. Never heard of Politijim prior to this, but wow his entries on Santorum/etc. are by far and away among the most thorough and substantiated I've ever seen.
