Tea Party Claims First Scalp (Jean Schmidt thrown out in OH)
Redstate.com ^ | 3/7/12 | Daniel Horowitz

Perhaps, the biggest news of the night is outside the confines of the presidential election. In OH-2, Representative Jean Schmidt was defeated in a stunning upset by conservative challenger Brad Wenstrup. She is the first of those who voted for the debt ceiling deal to go down in a primary. This should encourage us to focus our attention on congressional races in the coming weeks. There are primaries in Alabama and Mississippi next week. Several weak incumbents, such as Jo Bonner, Spencer Bachus, and Steve Palazzo, have primary challengers. I’m especially interested in Bachus’s seat. Let the house cleaning begin. We should not leave any stone unturned.

I gather that Boehner didn’t get “Primaried”.

Unless I read the ACU site wrong, this lady has a 90% lifetime rating. Now the people of the district can do whatever they want, but I find it troubling she is not considered friendly to the Tea Party with a record like the ACU records.

Perhaps there were other factors?

People forget that it wasn’t until four months before the 2010 elections that the Tea Party heated-up politics. We are still eight months away from the 2012 elections and most TP people have jobs and families that take-up most of their time.

The other factor was that she voted to increase the debt. Every congressman should be scared to do that. If we don’t increase the debe ceiling, you know what we have?? A balanced budget. It’s that simple.

Boehner was primaried. I didn’t see what the results were.

OK, now, let’s get united behind the nominee and win the general election. It does no good to clean up in the primaries only to die a horrible death in the general. How are things looking for November in this district?

ACU ratings are meaningless. They are simply a calculation of a small number of votes which the ACU thinks are important. They leave out a lot of actually important stuff. That’s how a guy like McCain still gets into the 70s.

I could run my dog in the district and he would beat the dem challenger. This IS rock-ribbed conservative territory.

COBOL - She has always been an idiot. The problem that resulted in her arose when Rob Portman retired his seat in the house to work for the Bush team as the International Trade Representative. Hamilton County (the East side at least - where THE money lives) has always dominated this seat with Bill Gradison and Rob Portman for more than 30 years. Clermont County (east Cincy suburbs) has always been the second banana in the power rankings. In `05 Clermont County GOP organized a strong effort to turn out for Clermont County state rep Jean Schmidt and that is how they seized the seat.

She’s been an embarrassment since before she was sent to DC. She NEVER gace press conferences and totally avoided any and all potentially controversial public showcases. She refused to answer questions. All she would do is dress in red, white and blue and drag her identical twin with her to nursing homes to flip pancakes for old people. That was the height of her campaign skills. The Clermont County GOP always did the heavy lifting to keep her in office.

She knocked people over to kiss Obama’s cheek at the SOTU two years in a row and that ticked off a lot of her constituents. She behaved as a star struck teenager and looked foolish doing it.

I’m thrilled she’s gone.

Thanks! Sounds like good bye and good riddance. Hopefully she’s conceded and won’t try to get the GOP machine to pull a Murkowski...

ACU ratings are meaningless.

That is going to far. They give you a very good idea of the members general voting habits.

They can be misleading. Texas Senator Lloyd Bentsen was famous for voting conservatively anytime the conservative position won, or lost, by a wide margin. When the issue was decided by a vote or two, he voted liberal. I don't know enough about Schmidt to say her ACU 90% is, or is not, misleading.
