I am probably very wrong here but I always thought the Italian mob’s rule was never to hurt children. You can whack a parent but not injured a child.

The mob says it respects children as a PR stunt but it will do anything in the pursuit of money and to protect itself.
For example, the Mafia long has been involved in child porn and child prostitution.
Most of what the mob says is a lie.
For example, another big mob lie is that it’s patriotic. Except in WWII the mob stole a morphine shipment worth $500,000 from the New York docks intended for wounded American soldiers, and Vito Genovese was undermining the war effort in Italy while he was with the U.S. military by stealing supplies for our soldiers and selling them on the black market.
Another big lie is that the mob is not involved in drugs when in fact it’s really mostly about drugs, and it’s role in the so-called legitimate economy really is for the purpose of laundering money and parking assets.
Don’t ever buy the myth that the mob has family values or is patriotic or possesses any redeeming qualities.
