A Romney Nomination Means Independent Runs from BOTH Trump and Ron Paul? You Bet Your Sweet Bippy!!!
Reaganite Republican ^ | January 12, 2012 | Reaganite Republican

If you weren't an adult (or were living in a cave) in 1992, I'm here to tell you that any independent run on the Right that pulls over 2-3% means four more years of Obama...
this election is way, way too close for us to allow anything like that to develop. (and some people wonder why I'm backing
Newt).

Yes, a dissed-n-pissed Trump is a serious potential problem we just don't need... but that's precisely what we're looking at now. He's already bolted the party, has an axe to grind, and can easily fund a substantial campaign. The Donald wouldn't need many votes to torpedo Mittens, and would at minimum do some heavy damage to the RNC's golden boy in the run-up to November.

Recall that Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to launch an independent campaign -think H. Ross Perot on cocaine- if the GOP 'picks the wrong candidate'.  He's also met and made nice with each and every Republican presidential hopeful save Romney, Paul, and Huntsman... in other words, any of the top three in New Hampshire and Trump's in. Since Mitt is the only one of them with a prayer of winning the nomination, you tell me who he's talking about.

But a Trump third-party presidential run would be a disaster for the GOP... and the nation, as Barack Obama would thereby be handed all the time he needs to finish pounding traditional America into smithereens.

Alas- it's kind of hard for me to get all over Trump for it when
l largely agree what he's trying to force from the DC party establishment. I don't want him as president, but the source of the problem lies elsewhere:
he wouldn't be threatening to run if there wasn't a (highly effective) conspiracy afoot to pick-off Romney's challengers one-by-one.

In addition, a Romney nomination is the one single thing that
all but ensures an indy run (or damaging fight-on to a brokered Republican National Convention) from Ron Paul... great!

An obstinate stand by this cult voter block could cost us dearly, since the Republican Party is in no position to just write-off major factions in an election of such dire circumstance
(vs. systematically-cheating opponents). This is likely what
Sarah Palin was recently referring to when she warned not to marginalize or ignore the Ron Paul libertarians... hey,
I'd like to see the Fed audited too-

Conservatives do need to all get on the same page- and quick. Any serious independent presidential campaigns on the Right -pushing divisions right on into November-
are exactly the opposite of what we need to save this country from the ongoing 'progress' of the Obammunist Left.

But who's to blame for this now-unfolding predicament? Those trying to force the GOP to listen to the TEA Party at long last...
or a GOP Beltway establishment hell-bent on ramming the unloved Mitt Romney down your throat?

I’m for destroying the GOP if Romney wins nomination.

Sounds like some "conservatives" who said this in 2008 if Romney DOES NOT win the nomination (and McCain does).

I don't get this 180 on Romney. He was not my first choice (or 2nd) in 2008, or in 2012. I just don't get how he went from Hero to a Zero - without really changing any of his 2008 positions for worse.

Have you checked out Romney's judicial appointments as governor?

Don't count on Romney to protect the balance on SCOTUS, he is just as likely to appoint flaming liberals as Obama is.

****

Exactly.

Can't you just picture an Obama-Romney debate?

BO: “My opponent has the same position as me on socialized health care.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has, many times in the past, expressed the same position that I have on immigration.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has the same position as I do on gun control.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has the same position as me on gay marriage.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has repeatedly expressed in the past the same position on abortion that I have.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “My opponent has demonstrated while governor of Massachusetts that he is willing to appoint three times as many democrats to the bench than republicans. While I’d not appoint any republicans, his position on judicial appointments are 75% of the way a reflection of my own.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “While it is well known that I’m no fan of Reaganomics and its attack on the middle class and lower class of this nation, my opponent expressed the same attitude in the past when running for the U.S. Senate.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

BO: “One area where my opponent and I DO differ on is jobs. I fight for them, while my opponent spent 25 years at Bain Capital buying struggling companies and tearing them apart and putting hard working people in the unemployment lines so he and his Wall Street buddies could pocket the profits.”
MR: “Let me explain the difference.”

And on and on ad nauseum. I’ll take my chances with Newt over Romney in a street fight with Obama ANY DAY.

The chances are that it will be anyway. As the conservative representation in this campaign falls away, I`m not optimistic this election will be anything other than a default win for Obama. Like I mentioned earlier, if we`re going to dilute the GOP vote, let`s at least make it entertaining, and draft Sarah Palin to run as yet another indie in addition to Trump and Paul. It`ll dull some of the depression so many of us will have as we watch Obama sail to a landslide reelection.

Maybe the GOP needs a disaster—maybe they need to be tossed out for ignoring the will of the people—pushing Mittens down the peoples throats—who are they working for Obama? Soros? Maybe we NEED a new party to replace the GOP! Only this time—we make the 3rd Party Win! A Tea Party! If we are to be ignored and pandered too—we should show them some pain!
I am not ready to buy the old —”A Vote for anybody but Mittens is a vote for Obama” Line. It worked before but not now. Its time to bump things up-—Move off the plantation and seek new answers! Maybe that succession Idea might be worth a look—maybe bring down the whole corrupt house of cards in Washington!
I don’t think Trump will make the run—Ron Paul Might—Maybe we should support him and Libertarianism —Lets get him in the White House just to shake things up!

I respectfully disagree

Huge Bolton fan on defense, but man did he get this one wrong- bad timing to say the least

Mitt’s in decline, as Newt’s (counter) attack ads start to bite: Romney’s only up 2 pts in SC in the latest poll, and Gingrich is out front in NC already- the day’s soon approaching when Romney is going to regret forcing the doughboy to go nuclear.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, right Mittens?

ha ha ha ha ha

I don’t think Paul’s under under age 35 voters are going to vote for any of the Republicans if Paul loses. They went with Obama last election. Many of them are occupoopers.

Republicans are not inspiring and supporting any agenda of change. They act like the communist old guard - protecting the beautiful ruins. I think the GOP may want Obama to win a second term given they continue to select losers with losing campaigns.

Any independent run on the Right that pulls over 2-3% means four more years of the Empty Suit.

If we're anywhere still close to lucky at all, it'll only be four.
