According to Rick Santorum, “the conservative view of freedom,” “the liberty our Founders understood.” This is “freedom coupled with the responsibility to something bigger or higher than the self.” True liberty is freedom in the service of virtuenot “the freedom to be as selfish as I want to be,” or “the freedom to be left alone,” but “the freedom to attend to one’s dutiesduties to God, to family, and to neighbors.”
If you don't think that's sick ... well ... you are in the majority.
I'm sorry, but I consider your point somewhat specious. The very real threat of reprisal that exists in an Islamist denunciation of free speech, with a reference to Danish Cartoons mixed in, is a world apart from any of your quotes, that are nothing more than rah-rah exhortations to fellow-man to do the right thing.
Somehow I just don't think that Rick Santorum would rather cut off my head with a rusty knife as look at me, if I decline his advice to live the way he prefers.
Do you really intend to be drawing a moral equivalence, or a comparison of any sort, between Rick Santorum and this loon? Should we fear that if Santorum and his ilk had their way, we would all be "free" to follow their interpretation of scripture in the same manner this guy means it?
Look up these two words and note the difference, liberty and libertine.
