Rush Limbaugh Slams GOP Establishment: ‘We Nominate Milquetoast Moderates And We Lose’
Mediaite ^ | December 14,2011 | James Crugnale

n an exclusive interview with Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren, Rush Limbaugh slammed the Republican establishment for thinking a “conservative nominee is route to defeat” and lamented the top-tier GOP candidates were “milquetoast moderates.” Despite these reservations, he said, “I think right now anybody other than Ron Paul could beat Obama if the election were tomorrow.” “Republican primary voters are conservative, I don’t buy this whole notion that the Republicans can’t be confrontational, can’t be aggressive and can’t go on offense because they will tick off the independents,” Limbaugh opined.

“We’re not supposed to be critical of liberalism and socialism. It makes independents nervous. So what do we do? We nominate milqueoast moderates. And what do they do? They lose!” he added.

“I actually think that if you can get — if you talk to these guys — Republican establishment, elected officials, party officials, certain inside the beltway media, you just ask me can Obama be beat? I say hell yes!” Limbaugh exclaimed. “They will tell you ‘they don’t think so.’ They are scared to death! Nobody won anything defending anything. You win on offense, you win attacking, you don’t win defending anything because you can’t advance. They are always defending. You can’t advance! … I would rather have somebody who thinks Obama can be beat, knows Obama can be beat and wants Obama to be beat. And that is somebody conservative, not moderate, not squeamish, not populist. We don’t need a candidate who’s going to try to say things or be things he or she doesn’t believe or isn’t. I think conservative appeals to everybody.”

“The GOP was neutered back in the early 90s when the GOP etablishment partnered with the democrats & MSM to emasculate Lee Atwater, who was guilty of playing the campaign game by the Democrats own rules.” Uhh Lee Atwater died in 1991.

I think you’re right and I concur. I will only add that I think Newt Gingrich, the historian, will try to emulate RWR from day one to ensure that history views him as closely to President Reagan as possible.

I am convinced he is the better equipped of all the candidates to be the leader of the free world.

YOU nailed it perfectly. Democrats in charge means the Republican never have to worry about their own PERKS, and come back to us with “We tried”.

Your absolutely correct.
Everyone seems to forget the job he did as Speaker. He brought Clinton to his knees and was then man enough to let him have his dignity by letting him get up.
The best vote anyone can make is for Gingrich. His baggage doesn’t affect his governing ideas and ability one bit. Rush is correct, the Republican establishing is blowing smoke up your butt so to blind your thinking if you believe them.

Lee Atwater was the ONLY reason Uber-RINO Daddy Bush won in 1988.

conservative agenda of limited government,

That is wishful thinking. None of the candidates in the race, other then Paul, have any serious plan for rolling back the size and scope of the Fed Government. They all think the solution is to tinker around the edges and "fix" Government.

None of them seem to grasp the Federal Government IS the problem

No Bush won because he was seen as Reagan’s 3rd term. He lost once it became apparent he was not anything at all like Reagan

As much as we might dislike this ... GOP presidential winners are pretty moderate. Look at 3 terms the Bush.

When was the last time a true Conservative won the presidency?

Rush's interview with Greta was the most hard hitting, dynamic, jump out of your seat interview I've seen representing a conservative opinion since Ronald Reagan. Anyone who thinks Obama can't be beat with a conservative is sadly mistaken. He is so vulnerable, Goldwater could have beaten him today. Obama is nothing but a media manufactured, George Soros alter ego. As Rush says, he can't run on his record. If truth be known the policy for Fast & Furious can be laid at his feet, his green energy policy is a colossal failure and has no signs of ever being successful, yet he pushes on with wasting more funds we don't have, his foreign policy is nonexistent. Jimmy Carter had a better foreign policy that this idiot. Finally, Obama is taking this country exactly where he wants it to be. Totally government dependency, Marxist, Communist with a muslim slant.
Newt is the only candidate that would shred him to pieces in any debate. I'll bet anyone that if Newt were to win the nomination, Obama will have a million reasons (none of which are legit) not to debate him. He's not that dumb. He's just evil!!

He was effective, and the dims knew it.

I was disgusted by the way guys like Bob Dole publically distanced themselves from him. And the media dwelling on his supposed political mea culpas after his death was as contemptible as it was morbid.

The greater point is that we are constantly bombarded with talk about “the establishment” and in reality, we cannot put a face on it.

Atwater had a great deal to do with Bush's winning - I think a great many were apprehensive after Bush 'kinder gentler' pronouncements.

But his campaign made a liberal monkey out of Dukakis. There was no choice.

vast knowledge of our Constitution

Here is where the Newt Cult lose Conservatives. Way too much cult of personality bot worship. You all sound just like the Obama posse in 2008.

Don't blow smoke about the guy. He is none of the things acolytes say about him. Building up these excessive expectation about Newt leaves him only one direction to move...downward.

Really bad campaign tactics to over promise and under deliver.
