Your metaphorical boat will go over the falls, not merely because it can no longer be driven back under its own power - it's too late for that - but because its passengers will either attempt to blink away peril, or else blindly head into the direction of disaster, rather than away from it.
If anyone plans on future "voyages", now is the time to make your own escape plans. The crew won't help you. They're too busy saving themselves. And here's the kicker: I'm an optimist. Many of us will make it. But they had better hear the bells ringing, and they are pealing loudly, right now.
Yeah, the ass of the boat is not off the cliff yet. Let’s hope that a pelican or two lands at the rear.:-) The black swan event would be an albatross landing on the tip of the boat.
