“Well, youre prepared...for taking care of your (rear) end if not the worlds end!”
4 years of paper towels too (which can double as toilet paper, if needed). Everything else too, that will keep...soap, shampoo, plastic bags, underwear, motor oil, etc.
The idea is to get through the transition from being a wealthy country to becoming a poor country. Once we stabilize where we REALLY belong, which is roughly 1/2 of our present GNP (unless we elect Cain), then things might start to improve a bit. The problem is getting there, and it will be very, very, ugly.
As I look at it, I’ve stocked up for three reasons. First, I have the space needed (and it’s really not much, one bedroom could probably fit all of my stuff, if I loaded it to the ceiling...though the paper towels are the killer); Second, I simply want to be as comfortable as possible while everyone else is scrambling and trying to figure out which store is selling soap this week, and how much they will let you buy; and third, it’s a good investment...the prices of this stuff is going up MUCH faster than any return that I could get in a bank, or even the stock market. I think that paper towels have increased something like 20% in just two years.
“Today however, Society just falling apart doesn’t sound so far fetched after all. “
NOT AT ALL. Once other countries pull the plug on their credit lines, we are toast...and that’s where it ends as we know it.
If you’re stocked up,you can avoid exposure to dangerous people/situations when you’re forced to forage for stuff. We could last over a year here on the farm and never leave the property.
Good point. Some are as mean as snakes and would welcome a `state of nature.’
The secret’s in the sauce.
Completely agree with your assessment. Here in the shadows of Jay Peak, we all carry sand, salt, shovel, chains and tow ropes from now until May; the chains we use routinely, but the rest are to help get the flat-landers out of the ditch when they think their BMW with summer tires can handle our roads.

The problem, of course, if protecting your property. Not always easy considering that if you repel a gang, they’ll simply come back with more people.
Having said that, you’re still much better off than most people, in that you can stay put for a while.
I think it’s Texas Trails that puts out detailed county maps. Local tourist centers usually have them for free. I have a stack and renew them every few years. You never know when back roads will come in handy.
FYI, the debate is coming on again. Great stuff if you didn’t see it earlier tonight.

The reality that todays comforts could disappear in the blink of an eye
It's conceivable that the demonization of "profits" could lead to the destruction of free enterprise just as the demonization of Jews led to the Holocaust.
In that case, only bribery or force will get you your goodies.
It’s the same sort of aggressive craziness you see to a certain degree in some Australians (speaking of Mad Max)’ but with a measure of Cherokee, Choctaw or Creek thrown in that makes them, well, how to describe it, unforgiving? They just don’t let go.
Get out of the city to a rural location where everybody knows and is related to everybody. Also rural folks are much more self sufficient. Zero cultural diversity is not going to hurt either. Become part of the community ASAP. Stock up for 1 year and have a good water supply. If you can afford it or can make it get an alternative source of electricity which is IMHO the most important thing right after food and water. Without electricity your life will be a misery.
That's the truth. I've already entered the replacement-only phase. If/when I can find it at a good price, I replace stuff we've used.

Thanks...I’m hearing great stuff about it. Seems that Newt and Cain are the only adults in race at this point.
“I don’t need to store food. I’ll just take other people’s...”
His life expectancy would be measures in minutes out here in the country...
Lose the machine gun. Chews up too much ammo.
Yes, you should get a grain mill and start making your own bread. Try waltonfeed.com
Buy a pallet load at a time to save on shipping.
BTW, the author is right. A group is ALWAYS more capable than any individual.
I agree.
And I’ve asked people who say things like that stuff like “Given the number of guns in this country, how many houses do you think you could raid before you were toast?”
Anyone who plans on living by stealing would be lucky to make it through the first week.
And my neighbors, who are prepper sorts also, have two very large, very nice golden retrievers who would just love to chew on a few ankle-bones!!
Alot of people talk about putting dog food in storage - no need for that!
The dogs will be far better fed than we will.
I save stacks of parts catalogs that vendors send me.
Much cheaper and will compost with humanure just ducky.
