No problem with this so long as you don't make stuff up.
The border at Tijuana/san diego is chaos..myself and 3 friends crossed into mexico there 10 years ago. Thousands go through that border daily...we walked across and got on a bus that takes you directly to town...parked on the california side..it was unreal the amount of people going both ways...
I've been staying out of all the various debates thus far, but this seems kind of tacky to me.
If Perry (or you) want me to vote for him, this really isn't the way to go about it.
This is not even remotely close to a sex scandal.
But we really do not know yet how this will turn out.
got to post #348 and had to mark the thread and get some sleep. Will finish it tomorrow.
Why do you have to bring up the in-state tuition issue? The issue has been defended in Governor Perry’s favor ad nauseam. Besides, if you really want to know the truth of the matter, the entire immigration issue matters very little with the average American voter right now. When compared to the other issues, only 4% think immigration is an important issue. The top issue is employment. And if we had good economic times, immigration would hardly be a blip on the radar screen.
Thank you for the great link. If what the indications suggest, Mitt Romney will be dirtied by his efforts to hurt Herman Cain. The effects will be very damaging to the Romney campaign.
Do you understand how a veto works ? It doesn’t matter how many votes in the legislature there were. The governor can STILL veto a bill. Then it goes back to the legislature and they must decide whether to override the governor’s veto. Had Perry really believed in reserving those university spaces for American students, he WOULD have vetoed the bill and forced the public scrutiny on the legislature that an override would have brought. Perry would have had clean hands and done the right thing, even if they had gone ahead with the override under the increased public awareness.
Have you considered that every year thousands of students cannot be accepted to state colleges and universities because there are not enough slots ? Have you considered that the Texas taxpayers support those schools and subsidize the true operating costs which are several times the in-state tuition and the taxpayers must cover the difference ? By failing to veto this bill, Perry spent taxpayer dollars to subsidize the higher educations of people who CANNOT EVEN WORK LEGALLY IN AMERICA, while at the same time denying American students the opportunity to go to college.
You brought up the metaphor of the submarine skipper sinking the sub, and I had to laugh. However, it brought to mind what I call the sub-plot to this story. It is the question of who was the leaker of the sexual harassment story? And the finger is starting to point to the Mitt Romney team. If that is true, the tactics he is using may be the big issue. I do not see anything good coming out of it. It could be the real submarine skipper, Mitt Romney, sinking his submarine campaign for president over an episode of dirty tricks.
I bring it up because it shows Perry is not a conservative. He has no respect for the taxpayer. He chose to spend taxpayer dollars subsidizing the higher education of foreigners in this country illegally. This was a failure of his fiduciary duty to the taxpayer. It was also a stupid waste of money considering THEY CANNOT WORK LEGALLY IN AMERICA. Maybe you don’t realize that colleges have a fixed number of students they can accommodate. Every illegal alien that attends a Texas university is one fewer American student that can attend. I understand over 10,000 Americans in Texas were unable to go to college since Perry failed to veto this law.
Straw man argument, mixed with ad hominem, combined with a bit of a pathetic running behind of Jim Thompson's skirts.
I am for Herman Cain, have been on Free Republic as nearly as long as you, and am no idiot. Examine my credentials and postings and insight. Oh, that's right. I guess it means...I am....heartless. Lo siento, por favor perdóname...mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
Spot on! Well said.
Good point. Maybe there are two submarine skippers in this race, along with another corpsman (Ron Paul) who can’t even swim.
That leaves us with Perry, and that’s alright. He can fly jets!
I think the finger is pointing to the Romney team as the originator of the Herman Cain sexual harassment allegations. This effort to destroy the Cain campaign will backfire and have a damaging effect on the Romney campaign. It may even sink his campaign if the charges are as baseless as they were determined to be some 20 years ago.
It’s not an argument at all. It is fact based upon keen observation. If you are for Herman Cain, good for you. I hope you change your mind for the reasons I’ve stated here.
I am not convinced that Herman is totaly innocent of these sex scandal charges (I use “sex scandal” to really piss off the Cain nativists here. They don’t like it, but it’s easier to type than figuring out if harassment has one ‘s’ or two. You get the drift).
There are TWO women. That’s a lot in a 2.5 yr stint. Are there more? I’d bet there are on inTrade if the odds weren’t so darn high.
Now what was alarming was how many Cain supporters thought there was a sliver of truth in what he 'joked' about. Those people were champing at the bit in anticipation of seeing dead Mexicans strewn across about our southern border.
Maybe commons sense and ones idea of conservatism do not see eye to eye. In my state they found the University of Washington was limiting the in-state students so they could admit more out-of-state students and thus, make more money. In the case of Texas universities, the increased enrollment of students of illegal parents, was an economic boost to the universities. Also, this puts those students on a track towards citizenship. When they graduated, they would be citizens and could legally work in the United Sates. It’s just common sense to do so.
But generally speaking, my opinions are not swayed by straw man arguments nor ad hominems, let alone innuendo, imaginary evidence and faulty syllogism. I am sorry if that disapppoints you my friend, but, well, that's just how this AiT is put together. I have settled on Herman Cain, have contributed, will be doing some key work ahead, and look forward to being on the floor of the RNC convention as his name is put in nomination for a first ballot victory, Lord Willing. Good luck, happy trails.
It’s late and I just spelled United States wrong. Need to sleep.
