Arlo Guthrie was/is a registered Republican and a Ron Paul enthusiast.

Hard to believe, but Arlo Guthrie is a Republican, and he endorsed Ron Paul last time around (not so hard to believe).

In 1979, “we” were thrilled that we helped depose the Shah of Iran so that he could be replaced by a moderate religious man. I still recall hearing the breathless, excited reporting of ABCs Peter Jennings as Khomeini entered Tehran while the masses cheered the end of what little freedom they did have.

Today in Argentina the "masses" are cheering the re-election of a socialist woman that is "spreading the wealth" by taking the private pensions and putting them into the public funds and by taking bond holders and "distributing" that money.

Her stated goal is to continue with public projects that will further "even the gap between rich and poor". Oh boy.

Woody Guthrie's left-wing "patriotic" song Ths Land (1951) ripped off its melody from "The Fire Song," a hymn probably written by the blues singer Blind Lemon Jefferson in 1928. Here's the Carter Family's 1930 version of The Fire Song
