Herman Cain Caught Lying in GOP Debate

Herman Cain has been caught lying in last night's GOP debate. Cain, who was the former deputy chairman and then chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve throughout the 1990's, had been opposed to an audit of the Fed. He had also said that Ron Paul supporters frequently ask him "annoying questions" about a Fed audit, even accusing the Paul campaign of sending agents to harass him at every event he attends. According to the Daily Caller:

The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of Cain’s book, “This is Herman Cain,” which goes on sale Oct. 4. In the manuscript, Cain claims Paul’s campaign “sends one of its ‘Paulites’ everywhere I show up.”

“I get the same stupid question at almost every one of these events,” Cain writes. “I know it’s a deliberate strategy. How can a person randomly show up at a hundred events and ask the same stupid question to try to nail me on the Federal Reserve? It’s really becoming annoying more than anything else.”

You know, context is everything. He also said that if someone wanted to they could. His reasoning, and remember he was about 20 years ago when the economy was much different. He also said there were all kinds of audits and they were pretty much useless. Thus, he doesn’t think it would be useful but wasn’t against someone doing one. It might just be, given the experience he had with useless audits, he has something more substantial in mind.

This gotcha stuff kills us every single time and all we have are ourselves. We don’t have a press willing to cover for us. Everyone is going to change their opinion, step over their words or forget what they said twenty years ago. These things are so much less important than issues and positions. And when one of these people is our nominee (it won’t be Paul), the press and the left (but I repeat myself) and the democratic machine will beat these things to death until the public starts to doubt everything about our candidate. We’ve GOT to focus on the things people care about put this petty stuff aside.

The thing about this story is that it is a half truth. When you listen to things in context it makes sense. When you pull a sentence out of context you can make it say what you want. That’s as dishonest as the “lie” you’re accusing Cain of. What the heck difference does it make if he gets the same stupid question over and over again and thinks a Paul supporter is following him around. How is that going to change ONE thing that matters. Convince people with issues not half truths.

shouldn’t the Fed be audited?

Each of the Federal Reserve banks are audited every year. The annual reports and the auditor's opinions are available online.

Nope. I’m just saying if you want to cry about “rudeness,” take it to the mods. Or grow up.

If Perry had anything at all to say, he would have said it.

Perry is at least as dangerous as Mitt and Newt. His background is LBJ style big government, and he has done nothing in Texas to pursuade us to the contrary. His wedding to the Pharmaceutical industry is very scary.

The FDA is the next thing that should be shut down after the Fed. It actively fights life saving effective cures for diseases.

The big problem I have with Cain is his propensity to exagerate or obfuscate.

Why does he refuse to tell WHO is his Economic Brain Trust (his words). Are their actually only one? OR is there names that conservs would be concerned about?

The other thing is that in his July filing with the FEC he listed his own corp (T.H.E.NEW Voice) as a donor.
Then in the same filing listed his corp as a vendor.
I don’t have the exact amounts but the donations met the limit $2500. IIRC. but there was a payout of $16,000.

It is just a matter of time before the Dums start digging big time. I’m not an election Law expert but this smells.

Just for your consideration. Since the announcedment of the Islamofascist woking out of Corpus, including their connections with the Aryan Brotherhood and the Mexiacan cartels.

I am concrned that the last person they want as President is Perry. They know perry wii bring down the military on them. Ijust wonder what they are up to. And what part are they playing in the latest ops.

Romney and Cain even bachmann do not understand this leverl of danger, to Ameica. Paul has been done for a long time but to make a remark than Iran i no dangr is scarey.

The one Person these evil people do NOT want as President is Perry.

Just my thoughts.

.
Now you have hung yourself Marty. Cain probably does less of that than Romney, Perry, or Bachmann.

The biggest obfuscation of this election cycle is Perry’s lies about his Gardasil fiasco; especially the fake ‘opt-out.’

Unlike you, everything I have ever said about Perry was/is the truth. Sometimes the truth is ugly, especially to those who continue to lie in the face of it. Like this thread, for instance.

This isn’t my thread, just so you know. I’m perfectly happy for people to post the truth about any and all candidates. The personal vitriol is another thing entirely.

Yes

Maybe it's time for a different sort of audit.

I'd like to see where the money's gone, and if there's any reserve, or just a bunch of iou's.

The sound they hear is time running out I'm sure.

OK, trying to be objective and listening to what Cain said in the debate and what he said on the Neil Boortz program - I don't interpret a "lie" coming out of this story. If anything, Cain is backpeddling away from his previous statements. He clearly indicated an audit of the Federal Reserve was unnecessary and a waste of time in the audio clip. In the debate, he more or less said, "go ahead, that's fine if you want to audit them."

Backpeddling, not lying.
