Buckley would go for the most conservative candidate that is electable. That might be Cain, that might be Perry...and frankly (and I personally think, probably) it might be Romney. Just the reality.

At this juncture you have the preferred sequence right! Cain, then Perry, then Romney as last resort.

Reality sandwiches are hard to swallow.

Didn’t Buckley himself run for mayor of NYC with no chance of winning? I guess he voted for the other guy...who had a better chance of winning.

As of today, Buckley would go for Perry. If Perry proves that he is really, really not electable, then he would back Romney. Maybe after Perry he might look at Cain.

That may or may not be the metaphysically right answer...but that is what Buckley would do.

Polls indicate that Romney does best head to head against Obama and Ron Paul does 2nd best against Obama. Everyone else is pretty much bunched up together.
