Herman Cain: America can be a nation with high fences and wide open doors. That's what built this nation. So we can have high fences and wide open doors, all at the same time.

Ron Paul: I think this fence business is designed and may well be used against us and keep us in.

The idea that you are going to build a long line of dikes to hold back the sea, does not make sense. You underestimate the abilities of lesbian softball teams.

Rick Perry after the Fla debate.

"The idea that heartless Americans are gonna
vote for a great guy like me makes no sense."

Have you ever been to the Texas Border? Do you know that there is a really big river there and several lakes that Texans make a living off of? Do you understand that if we fence it we will be giving US Territorial waters to Mexico? You can not fence the Texas-Mexico Border, anyone who thinks you can is an idiot!

I’ve got a fenced yard. It keeps my dogs in for their safety but I come and go as I please.

Blocking citizens from their water is a bad idea. I'm not being sarcastic but, what do you suggest is done here? Millions of streaming undocumented from God knows where includes jihadists. This isn't a ‘Mexican’ thing.

Yeah, who’s Perry to doubt American ingenuity? Obambi just said we built the Intercontinental Railroad!

It would be much simpler and cheaper to annex all of Central America, and build a very short wall just southeast of the Panama Canal. [/s]

I have viewed the part of the debate where Perry made the "doesn't make sense" statement.
Now let me add some context. He said, almost in the same breath, that we should instead put "boots on the ground".
Perry did not say it couldn't be done, just that there is a more practible way of regulating the border. He also mentioned using unmanned reconnaisance aircraft and other high-tech means of detecting illegal border traffic.
I am getting tired of these out of context, one-sentence criticisms of candidates, no just those aimed at Gov. Perry.

This isn't a Mexican thing. We know what to do here in Texas and the other border states. We have to stop the civil war in Mexico. It sucks, but we are out of options, we have to send in troops to kill the the Narco Terrorist and restore order. Then we can go back to the "Good Ol' Days" of people sneaking in for jobs. That we can handle with increased border funding.
If what is happening on our Southern Border was happening anywhere else in the world the UN would be here setting up refugee camps and the US would be sending Military support. It's ignored here because the Left believes that all these Mexicans will become Democrat voters.

Does ANYONE....and I mean ANYONE....think a fence will stop illegals?? Even the concept is stupid.
To: Meet the New Boss
Your analogies are ridiculous.
Anyone can build a fence. The idea that it will solve the illegal problem "IS THE PROBLEM".
Hell, my dog tunneled into my neighbors yard....about 100 times.
To: txroadkill
If your solution is to send troops into Mexico, home of the murder capital of the world, I cannot argue that. I actually typed that here when this whole Libya fiasco started. I don't foresee any future presidential candidate even considering it due to the media slant. Was down there a few years ago, southwest of New Braunfels looking at the dried up periodic flood properties. :) I liked everything but the lack of water/humidity. I wholeheartedly agree with your suggestion, but plan B (whatever that is) has been at the top for decades now.

To: Sacajaweau
What is ridiculous is your straw man argument.
No, a fence alone will not solve the problem, but a physical barrier is one necessary element of a multifaceted strategy to attack the problem which includes a physical barrier, boots on the ground, air assets, employer enforcement, denial of benefits for illegals, deportation, and a monitoring system to catch visa overstays among other things.
No one thing is going to “solve” the problem. We need to attack it from all directions.

I don't think that is far away, Perry was at the border just a couple of weeks ago and his helicopter took fire from Mexico. We have corrupt Mexican troops invading the US in Texas and Arizona all the time, a Mexican Special Forces Unit invaded Arizona to kill a Narcotics Police Officer.
