Texas governor orders STD vaccine for all girls [4 year old article]

Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.

...SNIP...

Perry has ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug company’s three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perry’s former chief of staff. His current chief of staff’s mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government.

The governor also received $6,000 from Merck’s political action committee during his re-election campaign.

The order is effective until Perry or a successor changes it, and the Legislature has no authority to repeal it, said Perry spokeswoman Krista Moody. Moody said the Texas Constitution permits the governor, as head of the executive branch, to order other members of the executive branch to adopt rules like this one.

IN texas, the process is essentially, you show up with your kid, and either turn in the proof of vaccination forms, or the nice printed form saying you aren’t getting your kid vaccinated.

The state even PRINTS The form for you, you just have to give them the information to put on the form.

This is one of the easier opt-outs. Most every state has a list of mandatory vaccines you must give you children, and most states have some sort of opt-out.

So, unless you are really arguing that liberty requires that no state be allowed to mandate things, we are really just arguing over where we draw the line on mandates.

For the record, I oppose mandatory vaccination with Gardasil; I’ve even written two opinion columns fighting the Virginia law.

But if you think that mandates with opt-out are an assault on liberty, do you object to mandatory child safety seat laws? Those laws usurp the parent’s authority to decide how to transport their children, and there is NO opt-out. A parent’s liberty is clearly threatened because not only isn’t the parent allowed to drive with an infant rolling around on the floor of the car, but since the parent also is NOT allowed to leave the child home unattended, if the parent hasn’t PURCHASED a child safety seat, the parent can’t actually drive his car anywhere, so his liberty of movement is usurped.

And note how this law forced a parent to MAKE a purchase, a lot like mandating health insurance — well, not exactly, because the parent can choose to simply not drive anywhere, but you get the point.

So, where do YOU draw the line. My guess is right where you can accuse Perry of being on the wrong side of it.

I hope you’ll be happy with Mitt because that’s who you get if it ain’t Perry. Your princess isn’t coming to the ball.

Perry should undo his executive order about mandatory Gardasil vaccinations for girls in 6th grade.

Thanks. You do understand that there was never a single inoculation of Gardasil given as a result of the EO issued by Perry? The Texas State Legislature back in Apr. 2007, some two months after Perry Issued the EO, passed legislation banning the mandatory inoculation making Perry's EO not enforceable. Perry did reverse several Executive Orders [Nos. RP 19, RP 24, RP 61, RP 63, RP 65, and RP 66] earlier this year in Feb. which include the Gardasil EO that the Legislature had made useless.

That doesn't make the issuance of the EO any less damaging to Perry but it no longer is in effect.

Nice deconstruction of Perry’s gardisil nightmare, DNMFOHE.

Perry’s imperial tactics are nasty and anti-democracy.

He refuses ro take responsibility for his actions.

Guy lives in a self-absorbed vacuum——
it’s all about him and his obsessive quest to climb the political ladder.

I don’t like the idea that people should have to opt out of the vaccination. And no, I do NOT approve of child safety seat laws. This nanny state bullcrap is ridiculous. There’s not a politician or law enforcement officer on the planet who cares more about my kids than I do. And the argument that I may be caring, but my neighbor is a blithering uncaring idiot, therefore a law is necessary, is complete jackassery.

I enjoy tweaking the apologists for state mandates, but the real issue with the Captain Gardasil issue is the stench of cronyism. All the other stuff is a sideshow.

The Convergen issue is much worse for Perry, but Gardasil is a more interesting thing to talk about, because there’s something in it to tick off just about anyone but a die-hard Perrybot.

I’m voting anybody but Obozo.

But only a fool is hostile to the truth.

Just who is it that gets to decide what the truth is? You? I have as yet to decide upon a candidate. I haven’t seen anything from any of the GOP nominees that particularly moves me in one direction, other than the fact I will NOT vote for R-U-N Paul. When it comes down to making that decision rest assured I will not be a one-issue-voter as some on FR appear to be.

If you are open-minded and want the facts, good on you.

But if all you want to do is “shout down” those who put the facts on the table, as you are obviously trying to do, you are wasting your time.

The truth is undeniable, no matter how loud people like you squeal like stuck pigs.

Sorry your mind is not developed enough to deal with it.

I guess there afraid of Perry.

Yes, I guess they're afraid of him--with good reason. The same power brokers who gave us McCain as a nominee in 2008 are trying to shove Perry down our throats. Then in 2012 we get to choose between Tyrano Max or Tyrano Minor. Some choice.

In case you haven't yet clued in (obviously, you have not), I'm not the one doing the shouting down of others, nor am I the one squealing. I'm only pointing out the fact that some people are making a mountain out of a mole-hill on this one issue. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, deal with it.

I would like to say sorry that you have such a simple-mindedness to your personality, but I can't. It's your bed you've made, and you get to lie in it all on your own.

There is a little more than 13 months until the November election. The Primary election is still a long way away. I'm not closing my mind, as you seem want to do, because of one or two questions about a candidate. I'm also not going to engage in the tactics of liberal morons in vilifying candidates based upon small potato issues. There are much bigger issues to deal with in the 2012 election. But, go ahead and make your early selection of a candidate, stick to that selection, and live with your decision. I'm sure that, if we wind up with Obozo for another 4 years, you'll be perfectly fine with living with your decision.

Look, let’s agree to disagree.

I think it’s good that all the facts be out on the table, you don’t.

I trust people to come to the right conclusion when presented with the truth, you don’t.

Now please quit wasting everybody’s time. Because you are never going to “shush” people from exposing the truth.

It’s not what FR is all about, and it’s not what America is all about.

Talk about wasting people’s time. Exactly which post is it where I make any claim to not wanting facts on the table? Hmmmm???? My only point is that this particular issue is, compared to all the other issues out there, very low on the scale of importance. But, if this is the hill you wish to climb, fight and die on, knock yourself out.

Thanks for the tip on “convergen”. I’ve looked at it a little, and what I’ve found so far doesn’t bother me.

I also see a pattern developing:

“Convergen, according to the governor’s news release, is developing nanomolecular therapies that target cancer cells without harming normal cells and can be combined with other cancer drugs. The work is undergoing lung cancer therapy testing at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.”

Perry really does have a thing for Cancer. It seems to be his weak spot.
