Katy Perry is a pop singer/songwriter who churns out annoying Billboard hits (Firework, Teenage Dream, Hot N Cold) that your tween-age kids love and you love to hate (yes, I speak from experience). She made news this week after tying Michael Jacksons record of scoring 5 #1 Billboard hits off a single album.
She also made some little-noticed waves on Twitter that should be newsworthy.
In a response to a fan of hers on Monday, she tweeted:
Over the past 24 hours, all hell has broken loose with Palestinian, Muslim, and progressive Twitter followers lashing out at Perry for her innocuous tweet asking others to pray for Israel. Heres a small sample:
Many of her fans in Israel praised her for taking a stand. But alas, their praise was premature.
Late on Monday night, you see, Perry backed off. Pray for Israel? Neeevvver mind:
Not that shell be able to appease the unappeasable.
More from the peaceniks:
Baby, youre a Dhimmi Work
No, we should pray for her, and witness to her, that God might come into her heart.
Her parents had a turnaround when Katy became famous and making millions. They embrace it all now. They were overboard weird not allowing Lucky Charms to begin with, but they sure turned around easily and accepting of everything now.
Money changes everything.
Let me say that again. In this case, she is trying to do the right thing.
But because she is far from perfect, many folks here are choosing to ignore her rather brave act, and are instead focusing on her imperfections.
I find that very puzzling.
Instead of criticizing her, the entire country should be applauding her. Perhaps that would encourage others to speak up for Israel.
The Bible says God does not hear the prayers of unbelievers.
John 9:31 - We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.
I Peter 3:12 -For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
And she did back down - from the article : Late on Monday night, you see, Perry backed off. Pray for Israel? Neeevvver mind.
I have seen what Katy Perry has become and she needs to repent, if she was ever a Christian to begin with. My experience with Mormonism taught me that just because you are raised in a Christian home does not make you a Christian and Perry’s comments have shown her to no longer believe. That is her issue. It is my duty as a Christian to call all sinners to repentance and that includes Perry.
My tagline is a line from Amazing Grace, I was once blind and thought I was a Christian and a Mormon, God opened my eyes to see that Mormonism isn’t Christian and led me to the foot of the Cross and salvation through the Jesus of the Bible.
So, yes you are wrong. Big time and you obviously have little, if any, understanding of Christianity.
Yup. Could not agree more.
Why should we applaud someone who backed down after making that statement?
No, we should pray for her, and witness to her, that God might come into her heart.
- - - - -
Amen!
And why do you think she would back down from her original statement? A sudden change of heart?
No way! I'm sure it's because she was pressured to back down. pressure from her record producer, from her manager, who knows?
And I'm not too surprised. Remember, she's a young person with little life experience. She's not a 20-year Marine Corps veteran.
When someone tries to do the right thing, the effort should be supported.
While you have your Bible out and quoting scripture, look up the story of Jesus on the cross. Read up on the kind of man who he told “You will be with me this day in Paradise.”
Since you probably read well enough but obviously don’t understand the meaning of what those words are saying too you, I will explain it to you. If a man whose sins far surpassing anything this pop star ever did wrong in her life can make it past the Pearly Gates on Jesus Christ’s own personal invitation, I think it’s a safe call to say that he would likewise forgive he her own sins. That’s kinda what he does. You apparently know better.
So again, you are blind and do not see the reality of the words in front of your face, nor the meaning behind them. Trust me. I can rattle off scripture with the best of them. Makes no difference to me or anyone else. Post the entire Bible if you feel the need. But until you take those words to heart, words is all they are ever going to be.
Two more words for you to ponder from those pages. Mote and Plank. Any Christian with the most basic understanding of the faith knows enough to not question anyone’s walk with God but their own. So again, Blind and do not see.
I challenge you to find any legitimate theologian, priest or pastor, not some online intervangelist, who will dispute a single thing I have written here.
Freepmail me when you fail in that futile quest.
Maybe there is hope of Katy Perry.
Maybe there is hope for Katy Perry.
Norm, the theif on the Cross believed in Jesus, it shows we don’t need works we need belief. If Katy repents then God will answer her prayers, but based on her comments I don’t believe she was ever a Christian even being raised in a Christian home.
She has to ask Christ for forgiveness and repent, it isn’t about her sins, it is about her lack of belief.
I am basing my comments on HER STATEMENTS, and Christians are to question those who claim to be Christians. It isn’t that we are not to judge, it is we are not to judge hypocritically.
I can find plenty of theologians who agree with me, as I learned these doctrines in Bible college. The late John Stott and Erwin Lutzer specifically talk about how Christians should judge other Christians on their walk.
FWIW, it is the accepting of Christ’s sacrifice that saves and the rejection that leads to damnation. Jeffery Dahmer is in Heaven and his sins were much worse than Perry’s.
I’m not sure why you feel so compelled to defend a fallen woman who has openly rejected Christ in her life. I don’t know if she was ever a real Christian, but she isn’t one now, that is obvious.
Thanks markomalley.
Then by all means...bring those theologeans to the thread and have then defend your insanity. I’ll be around. As I said before, Freepmail me when you don’t find any. Now on to your latest craziness...
“FWIW, it is the accepting of Christs sacrifice that saves and the rejection that leads to damnation. Jeffery Dahmer is in Heaven and his sins were much worse than Perrys.
Im not sure why you feel so compelled to defend a fallen woman who has openly rejected Christ in her life. I dont know if she was ever a real Christian, but she isnt one now, that is obvious.”
In two paragraphs back to back, you claim JD is saved and KP is damned. Since you have no concept of what it means that Christians are instructed to pray for others, not condemn them, there is little point in explaining the fallacy of your position.
But I will answer your ‘defend’ stupidity. I rise to her defense because CINOS such as you appear to be via your actions on this thread seem to get some kind of self-important gratification in preaching your ‘holier than thou’ garbage. People like yourself, through actions such as you display here and elsewhere, do more to drive people away from the faith than an army of Atheists could hope to accomplish on their best day.
You, who are no greater than any other sinning human, wear your faith on your sleeve, rant and rave about who’s prayers God hears, condemn others whom you have no power over, in the name of one you have no understanding of and with a fervor usually reserved for snake handlers in the Appalachians. I rise to her defense because you are an example of everything wrong with what the public sees of “us” when in fact, most Christians would be aghast of your twisted interpretation of “love thy neighbor” were they to hear the warped version of ‘Christianity” coming out of your mouth/keyboard.
Two MORE words for you to look up and ignore.
Mary Magdaline.
