There is probably no gold there. Just a Potemkin village. One tends to cut corners on things that aren’t really important.
It was definitely there in 1977. I was part of the casual labor (read “college students on Summer break”) who moved ~47,000 bars in support of a Treasury / GAO audit. And the other sealed vaults had plenty of gold, you could see though the ventilation holes.
