The four border governers (Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, Rick Perry of Texas, Janet Napolitano of Arizona, and Bill Richardson of New Mexico) have sent a letter House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist urging them to pass "comprehensive" immigration "reform". While Perry says they aren't endorsing either the House or the Senate bill, they are in fact endorsing the Senate's version due to their use of the word "comprehensive".
And, they're also using a Democrat talking point: "Instead of holding dozens of field hearings that do little but stir the pot of discontent, we urge you to get back to work and pass legislation that puts the interest of taxpayers first and solves this crisis once and for all."

That statement is not only idiotic, it is false. It may have been surpassed by other life and death issues, but to say it is not important to conservatives is asinine.
Which candidate has made it a major issue like Tancredo or Hunter did in 2008?
Let’s start again from scratch — immigration reform should include sending all illegals back to place of origin and all new legal immigrants should bring something to contribute, i.e. skills, instead of just an empty hand.
As I said, Obama is driving us off a cliff, and other life-or-death issues are at hand.
But to say “most conservatives don’t consider it important” is a load of B.S.
You ask any conservative with an IQ above room temperature if the border issue is important, and they will say a resounding yes. For economic and national security reasons. If you think it is NOT important, you are not a conservative.
Only an outright IDIOT would not think the borders are an important issue.
You just want to minimize the issue to support your candidate. Shameful.

Even if he was a RINO, which I don’t think he is..but even so...he has a chance of beating Obama, and THAT is the goal.

The issue is not important to conservatives in the sense that they do not use it as a litmus test in deciding who to vote for. Case in point: John McCain. Or Lindsay Graham. You can quote any polls you want, but the only ones that matter are on election day.
Why send them back? Mass deportation would cost us and it won’t happen with millions of illegals.
“send them all back” is the most ridiculous and non realistic position. You just create a stalemate which we have had for years, because mass deportations is not workable. this country will just not do that now....and we don’t need to do that to solve the problem.
Here’s what works:
1. Secure the border.
2. No sanctuary cities.
3. Cut their welfare, college education monies and non emergency medical care. Actually deport those that need major medical care.
4. enforce employment practices against hiring illegals.
5. Set up a realistic Work Visa program for those workers that are needed. No work visa, no job. and beef up the process so that it doesn’t take ten years to get a green card!
6. Grant amnesty to any illegals that the military will accept and put in a minimum of four years in a combat zone.
7. Arrest and imprison illegal criminals.
With that in a matter of one or two years our illegal immigration problem will be solved. the vast majority we don’t want here will self deport and the new influx with a border will radically diminish.
but, I guess it is so much easier just to rant and scream “Deport them all!” rather than come up with a viable plan and work it piece by piece.

John McCain was notoriously weak on immigration (actually hostile to conservatives on this issue), and he LOST THE PRESIDENCY to Barak Hussein Obama.
And part of the reason he lost was precisely because of his views on amnesty. Don’t try to rewrite history, we were all there.
So for you to sit there and say conservatives don’t care about “immigration reform” or “amnesty” enough to make a difference in the election....that’s just plain idiotic.
You certainly make poor arguments for your case.
Just get it all out. Show us what they really got.

It can be done in just 6 months using buses already available. Properly managed with modern state of the art scheduling software you can do it for under $300 million. You can use airplanes and do it in 6 months at a cost of about $3 billion. (Fewer personnel are required with planes).
You can even offer to pay them $10,000 at the border to be collected at a bank in their hometown with the three-dimensional hologram ID we provide them. All they need to do is step across and stay across (the selected border crossings will be heavily guarded during that period.
Remember, it may seem difficult to deport 10 to 20 million people but they got here on foot. Motor vehicles should make it much easier.

If you think amnesty did not largely effect McCain’s loss among conservatives, you aren’t very bright.
And I know you were talking about his Arizona Senate Seat, which is irrelevant, because who in the hell do you think VOTED to keep him in office there? ILLEGALS and people soft on the border issue.
HE LOST the presidency, and amnesty was no small factor.
If you deny that, you are hopelessly deluded.

I've said it long ago, Palin & Perry will team up in some shape or fashion before it's all over.
And even with Rick's shortcomings, that's a team I could and will support.
You really need to start backing your statements up with facts.
I will vote for ANY candidate we nominate in 2012. And I have never said that, ever, in my whole life. :-/
First of all, genius, the McCain protest was people sitting out the election. They did NOT vote for Obama. They did not vote. Period.
So there ARE NO exit polls saying people stayed home because of amnesty.
But here on Free Republic, and on every conservative talk show I listened to (which is a bunch...Rush, Mark Levin, Steve Malzberg, Roger Hedgecock, Dennis Prager, etc. etc.) there were TONS of voters vowing to stay home because of McCain’s stance on amnesty.
I was not one of them. But that IS what happened. Bank on it.
But if you want to live in make-believe world, and delude yourself into thinking that didn’t really happen, then you go right on ahead.
And if you think the borders are not important to conservatives, you are (to quote Foghorn Leghorn) “about as sharp as a bowling ball.”
