Palin and Trump Tag Team Romney(Mitt MIA; Trump Threatens Indie Run if GOP picks "wrong candidate")
08/09/2011 | Brices Crossroads

Posted on 08/09/2011 12:56:13 PM PDT by Brices Crossroads

Last week on successive nights, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump both decried Mitt Romney's "finger in the wind" strategy regarding the debt ceiling hike, . Both Palin and Trump condemned him as missing in action on the debt ceiling hike, coming out against the deal only after it was a fait accompli. Trump found it be be strategically insane to raise the debt ceiling so high that it will not have to be addressed until after the 2012 election, in effect sparing Obama from having to revisit this issue next spring or summer on the eve of the campaign, when it would have spelled doom for his reelection. Trump was decidedly unimpressed with Romney and, after singling him out for criticism, Trump indicated that he would pursue an independent run for the White House if the GOP picked the "wrong candidate", which was undoubtedly a reference to Mitt (and perhaps to others). Against this backdrop, Trump indicated that he really liked Sarah Palin whom he deemed "terrific".

While I doubt that Trump and Palin are pursuing any coordinated strategy, these remarks from Trump concerning a third party (which he had made before last week) seem to me to be a shot across the bow of the GOP Establishment. As the primary campaign ramps up, the Establishment is going to produce poll after poll showing Romney to be more "electable" than Palin. These polls will be as bogus as those in late 1979 and early 1980 showing Gerald Ford more electable than Ronald Reagan. Trump, I believe, is telling the GOP that, if it nominates Romney or one of his ilk, it will not be a one on one race with Obama, but that he will self finance a campaign against them both. His effusive praise for Palin suggests that she is not one of the "wrong candidates" and that he would feel no compulsion to enter the race if she were the nominee.

In other words, Trump is threatening to help Obama if he doesn’t get his way.

“In other words, Trump is threatening to help Obama if he doesn’t get his way.”

It is not about Trump. It is about the RINO Romney and the corrupt GOP establishment who will try to foist him on us. If Trump didn’t run third party against Romney someone would. It is the law of supply and demand. The TEA party is never going to vote for Mittens.

Ergo, Romney is unelectable.

You can balme whover might run against him but the fault lies with the GOP establishment and those who carry their water on this site and elsewhere.

No worries, Rick Perry will be the nominee.

And Trump is just as much of a RINO as Romney

Seem to me to be a PR strategy. The minute he makes clear he's not running, the media become less interested in him.

I contend that the only thing the democrats wanted was a raise in the debt ceiling beyond 2012. That was the only thing. ANd they got it, because the republicans were too stupid to understand that.

I’m totally fed up with all of them. If Trump wishes to run, fine let him, and we can have four more years of this idiot...

If Wisconsin recalls their elected republicans.. fine let them.. and if they do I hope the whole state goes down the tube just like Michigan... and Illinois to soon follow...

If we have to hit rock bottom before we wake up.... or never wake up, fine....

But I for one, am not losing anymore sleep expecting our elected republicans to do anything. They are gutless wonders....

I don’t see it that way...I can see Trump pulling votes but then dropping out and telling all to vote for his idea candidate. He’ll pull from the Demorats as well...just for his popularity and perceived business sense.

Yep, I can see this as a good thing and I would gladly support him being in the race....for awhile.

Trump scares the devil out of me. I suspect a “deal” between him and the White House. Trump will run and drain off enough votes to reelect “The Divine One.” In return Trump will receive some large benefit. What the quid pro quo is at this time is not readily apparent. It could range from Billions to prestige??

What is the Tea Party - 20-30% of the electorate ? Smaller than Obama’s base of liberals and minorities. I’m not a Romney supporter, but he seems to be doing just fine so far in the primary polling without the extremes of either side.

Nobody's as bad as Romney! He's toxic in every way. But Perry's also a Rhino.....just not as toxic as Romney.

I'm so sick of the media trying to make Romney the ideal Republican candidate. If it makes it to the finals it's because he bought his way there along with those who are funding his run to get him there.

IMO...Romney doesn't want to be President. But his Mormon backers are dead set "their guy" make it to the top and he has no cholice but to run.

How do you explain Trumps opposition to the Ryan Budget plan and his record of giving money to Democrat politicians like Bill and Hillary Clinton?

Trump is 0's 2012 Trojan Horse

Trump is just threatening in order to harm Mitt, I doubt if he would actually run third party if Mitt wins the nomination, Trump hates bambi and running 3rd party would guarantee bambi’s re-election.

Although a Mitt presidency would be vomit inducing, if we keep the house and gain the senate Mitt can be coerced. He is very pliable all you have to do is dangle fame and legacy in front of him. It won’t be the worst thing in the world to have Mitt as president, but it will be the worst thing in the world to have Obama re-elected.

Wrong on both counts. Perry's a Rhino and all know that unless their heads are in the sand. Palin and Bachman stand a much better chance against Obama. They won't sell out. Perry will.

“But Perry will win. Palin can’t.”

Then suppose you explain to me why the electoral powerhouse Perry needed Palin’s help just to be renominated in deep red Texas against a weak RINO like Hutchison and a truther Paulbot. He got just over 50% of the vote against these two powerhouses and needed Palin ‘s help to get that.

He won reelection in a huge GOP year (2010) with less than 55% of the vote against a weak Democrat.

When Palin ran in 2006, a big Democrat year, she crushed an incumbent GOP governor (who had won four statewide elections) in the primary by 32% and easily defeated a popular two term former governor, even though one of her GOP opponents mounted a third party challenge against her.

And Perry is the electable one?

I suppose Perry will be a lot more popular in Ohio and PA than he is in his home state. /sarc/
