Sarah Palin said that though Tea Party members are used to being labeled as racists and inciters of violence, she found it especially appalling that the second in command of the most powerful office in the world would say that Tea Party members are acting like terrorists.
Regarding the debt limit deal, she went on to say that while it is a victory to change the debate toward talking about the debt, there is much more work to be done. She does acknowledge that the debt limit deal is a step in the right direction but she doesnt like giving what she believes may be the most liberal President in US history another 2 trillion dollars that we dont have with no major reforms:
[Here's the interview of Palin on Greta a short time ago.]
Thanks, Jim.
As long as YOU agree that the victory was not the bill itself, or even IN it, but the DIRECTION OF THE DEBATE STEERED AND DOMINATED BY THE TEA PARTY...which IS a step in the right direction. NOR is it a dead issue, because we will drive it until we get home.
You are too kind. :)
No, I’m not. Trust me.
Palin is good at respecting and including people in her messages, even those who need/want/yearn to see SOME kind of victory in this. That's a good thing; it inspires people to be engaged. In Palin's shoes, I'd have let anger make me blow it and turn a bunch of people off. Palin keeps a cooler head -- and makes a smarter leader.
The Rats and Rinos (majority of the GOP I hate to say) won this one, it's up to us to make sure it was a Pyrrhic victory for the bastards come 2012.
Hey, I represent that remark.
I posted another response to the substance of your argument, so I won't repeat it here. You claim I am a RINO -- I wouldn't expect you to give a damn about my posting history, but I believe my posting history would show you are wrong. I've been on the "wrong" side of some hard issues, but I'll proudly stand behind the totality of my posting history. I'm not always right, but on issues of substance across the board I'll match my record to any conservative here. There isn't a thing in the FR mission statement I disagree with.
I guess if you are sure this was a total failure, then my opinion that Sarah thinks differently looks to you like I'm attacking her, when I think I'm agreeing with her.
I find it amazing that, from my perspective, if I agree with Sarah I'm exhibiting PDS, but if I disagree with her it's because I'm a great supporter. But that is predicated on my opinion of her statement being correct.
I am unlikely to sway your opinion of me, but I can't do any more than explain why I find your opinion incorrect. In the end, people believe what they want to believe, with or without evidence.
I support Sarah Palin, using the term support in the same way I always have -- she is a person I can consider for the Presidency, and who I will defend against attacks. I like her, and usually agree with what she says. I'm not an ardent Sarah-Only fan; I haven't chosen a single candidate yet, and at least two possibilities I'll consider aren't even in the race yet. And no, I will not support Romney, he lost me long ago.
I'm not a cipher. I wear my opinions on my sleave, even when they change. I'm not trying to win some prize here, I say what i believe, because why would anybody say anything they didn't believe?
Well, I actually saw the interview, downloaded it and am anout to auto-transcribe it when I get the time. I don't expect any discrepancy between what I saw and what goes in the file.
I can only conclude that you need medication.
You make good points. She did a lot of criticizing of the specifics of the bill. I don’t think that negates the fact that she agreed with the premise offered by Greta. She didn’t have to say “victory”.
And I disagree that her “victory” statement is confined solely to the point about changing the discussion in washington — because if that is what she meant, she wouldn’t have to then qualify that statement with the phrase “it’s not a 100% pure genuine victory” — because changing the discussion wouldn’t be called a pure genuine victory.
To me, it seems clear that hte “not a 100% pure genuine victory” is talking about the outcome. That is reinforced because the next statements are all attacks on the outcome. But she didn’t say “It’s not a real victory”. She said it wasn’t a “100% pure genuine victory”. That seems to say that the outcome was some percentage of a victory, and probably more than a few percent.
I agree with what I think Sarah said, that there was a victory for our side. And yet I agree with all her criticisms of the bill. So I don’t see her crticism of the bill as proving she doesn’t we were somewhat victorious on the outcome.
My dad is one of those wonderful limited government conservatives who understands to the depths of his bones the principles of conservatism; his favorite guys are Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman. In his life -- he's 89 -- he'ss probably converted MORE liberals to conservatism than I could even count. I know many of them remained friends of the family for decades. He does it by being patient as an oyster, and by resisting the impulse to be angry. In fact, I don't think he even gets angry -- he just becomes more sincere in trying to educate folks, patiently, with total respect for their intelligence. He never offends people, and he consistently resists the temptation to be offended by them. It's amazing to watch.
Me, I'm patient for about the first five minutes, and then I get exasperated, and start snarling. Guess how many folks I've converted?!? *rolls eyes* I watch Palin, and I think I see the same kind of sincere patience at work that I've seen in my dad. I like FR especially because in writing, it's much easier to resist getting angry and to keep cool instead.
Your nose is about 12 inches long at this point.
With 5yo granddaughter in tow, I marched into Rep. Lou Barletta’s office, vented for 10 minutes and suggested that Lou had become a glorified rubber stamp for Boehner. There is a place for venting anger, but as the prospective leader of the free world, I’m glad that Sarah keeps her cool. Her tranquility under fire will serve her well. I don’t WANT her to be like ME! lol Bob
I can almost agree with your assessment, except I think she was more upbeat about it than your words suggest.
I think all those things are true. I just wonder if all those things have the same level of importance. I don’t think any conservative should be happy with this bill, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take it as a step forward and build on it.
We have a lot of building to do. I guess it depends on what the question is. Is the question “are we better off with this bill than with the CCB?” The answer is clearly no (even though I don’t see the BBA as the cure). How about “are we better off with this bill than with no bill”? I happen to think we are, because I think overall economically and politically a failure to ACT on the debt ceiling would have been bad for the conservative movement — but we’ll never know now.
If the question is “are we better off with this bill than with Obama’s idea of what to do, or with Reid’s bill”, I think the answer is clearly yes.
So is this a “victory”. Not fully, but it is a better outcome than it appeared possible in March after the disastrous reconciliation fight, and for the tea party conservatives, I think it is a victory, and I don’t think conservatives should be demoralized but should feel vindicated and also driven to do more.
BTW, I think there is a different reason Sarah went off so harshly on the bill, and it’s something Greta said: “I’m sort of curious whether the american people will not sort of take a bow, those who are tea party activists, and go back to their lives which are very busy and very full and they’re worried about their own lives, or whether they are going to take this victory and move on, I don’t know”.
Greta was asking if conservatives would take this as a victory and go home. THAT is the question Sarah was answering, and she answered it by saying it WAS a victory, but just a partial victory, and there was much more work to be done.
And with that, I have to go to bed, on the east coast and all. Hopefully, despite our other differences, we can agree on that last point I just made.
I agree with that as well. I certainly don’t feel good about this bill, nor do I feel like doing a victory dance. I did feel better after hearing what Sarah said. I’m not even trying to argue about how I feel about the bill, I just think that people aren’t interpreting what Sarah Palin said accurately (although not as badly as those who posted earlier threads about her loving the bill and thinking it was a victory).
You said I was a RINO. That’s much worse than a “deranged idiot”. :-)
This is a prize fight. We are still in the early rounds and we have barely broken a sweat. But LOOK at THEM. oblame-a was frothing at the mouth on national TV. Reid was drooling on his bib. Boehner will NEVER be able to take us for granted, McConnell looks positively corpselike. AND WE are their worst nightmare. They know we’e coming and there is not a dang thing they can do to stop us. Not after this. THAT is the “victory” Sarah sees. And trust me, the rinos and dems see it too, more clearly than ever.
WHEN Sarah announces, it wouldn’t surprise me to see more than a few announced retirements...and maybe a couple of heart attacks.
Find one thing I said against her in this thread. Find something I said against her in any thread this year.
I reject the notion that to support a candidate, you have to agree with what her supporters think she said.
I could be wrong about what she said. I won’t know that unless I explain what I thought she said, and others explain what they thought, and I can look at their arguments.
Some here have made persuasive arguments that have changed my opinion somewhat about what she said. Others have simply used name-calling and snide remarks, which interestingly did nothing to change my opinion on anything that was said.
What makes you think I dislike Sarah Palin? That I had a different opinion about what she said?
You have PDSed on threads for quite some time. Your battles with ansel12 and others have shown your dislike for her and her supporters.
Yep and that's why I think she will run.
