The can raise taxes and plunge us into another total long lasting depression that will last a generation. Sounds like a winning election strategy.
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and defense consume almost every penny of current revenue. We’re borrowing to pay for the interest on the debt and the rest of government functions. What would you cut?

If they vote for this, the GOP is asking to be blackmailed by the debt commission. Tax hikes or cut defense/medicare.
It’s that simple. They know exactly where this is going.
