By the way, did I mention how Woodrow Wilson Lied about keeping us out of war? It was in Fact, his campaign slogan for reelection. "He kept us out of war." Yeah, well he lied about that. He was another Pompous Ivy League Educated Smart @ss like the current idiot we have as Precedent.

As a result of Wilson getting reelected (through lying) he managed to entangle the United States in World War I. An event from which we had rightfully remained uninvolved up till then. Once he decided to go to war, he refused to tolerate any dissent. He sent federal goons around to arrest, harass, and imprison anyone who objected. J.Edgar Hoover got his start bashing heads for Wilson. Some were killed, some went to prison, but all of America went to war.

As a result, Germany could no longer maintain a Stalemate, and had to sue for peace, the terms of which guaranteed the massive bloodshed which came later. Wilson set in motion the machinery of World War II. His "League of Nations" became the corrupt U.N., and his support for the 16th amendment (Direct Taxation of citizens, and not even legally ratified at that) and the Fiscal Policies of John Maynard Kenyes (The Monetary version of his own Homosexuality, (Party hard and DIE!) ) coupled with an Abandonment of Specie based currency set the stage for further disasters down the road, and to which we are still currently dealing with today. The MONSTER of government began feeding on new victims, and the final horror of Wilsonian ideas has not yet been realized. The Democrat Party leaves a wake of death and destruction every time people are stupid enough to let it into power.

On Wilson and the Sixteenth Amendment, IIRC, Wilson was not yet sworn but certainly an advocate. A Virginian, Wilson, prejudiced like most Southern Democrats of his time, had little respect for blacks, his 'Negroes'. Commentators note that once in office, he arranged to fire the few remnants holding federal office from the tail end of Reconstruction. But more importantly, it was Wilson who after almost 50 years of no Amendments except for XVI, set the stage for Amendments XVII, XVIII and XIX in short succession dramatically changing America forever, certainly as much as our entry into WWI.

Of course XVII provided for the direct election of Senators, diluting the difference between a democracy of the great unwashed and the republic envisioned by the founders.

Amendment XVIII was Prohibition and Amendment XIX was Woman's Suffrage. It is said that the latter could never have been passed without the former i.e., no booze was a function of the local temperance ladies and those same gals vowed to withhold their charms from their now sober spouses unless they were also given the vote. (Women apparently preferred the order of passage as they feared refusing the drunk at home.)
