Forget about Barack Obama. Sarah Palin will face a tougher fight than any election trying to take down Harry Potter at the box office July 15.
AMC Theatres have announced the chain will be the exclusive exhibitor for the pro-Palin unauthorized doc The Undefeated which opens the same day as the final Harry Potter flick: Deathly Hallows: Part 2.Plus Disney opens its reboot of Winnie the Pooh, featuring the voice talents of Craig Ferguson, John Cleese and Jim Cummings.
Made for $1 million by documentary filmmaker documentary filmmaker Stephen Bannon, The Undefeated focuses on Palins days as Alaska governor and her rise to vice-presidential running mate. The Undefeated won't be shown in Toronto AMC theatres, according to a spokesperson for the chain, which says the movie will only open in 10 "select markets."
Are they all in red states? You betcha!
Point taken. If The Undefeated gets publicity related to the Harry Potter thing, good.
But Harry Potter is about as appealing to me as having a sandwich made of styrofoam and cardboard.
As much as I like Sarah....
...I don’t need to be convinced about sarah
...I don’t need to have my opinion changed about Sarah
...I already plan on supporting Sarah if she runs
THEREFORE...my Lovely Wife and I are going to see Mr. Potter & company on that opening weekend. Yeah, yeah, I know...but we’re going to have MONTHS of politics and mud-slinging and vitriol and have our fill of everything we never wanted to know about ALL the Presidential candidates.
I’m going to see HP&TDH for pure escapist fun.
Perhaps some of them are "Harry Potter" fans. From Dave Weigel, at Palin, the Movie: Coming July 15:
The movie cost $1 million to make, and Bannon was perfectly confident that it would succeed. Ideally it would break big with a mass audience, but even if it didn't, there was a built-in crowd.
"There's enough Palinistas out there, although I certainly didn't make this for the Palinistas," he said. "They know this stuff anyway.
I made it for a middle class audience that doesn't really know anything about her, doesn't know what she's really accomplished..."
See my tagline —— I’ve had it for over a year after seeing the “Republicans for Voldemort” bumper sticker on the car of one of my lib friends..........
Yea, it’s like saying Tonka Toys is competing with Caterpillar.
So I have noticed!
Kinda makes sense to me, though I’m no Lambert fan. If you believe in being an independent spirit, one who doesn’t follow the herd, one who isn’t a slave to the prevailing cultural winds, then logically you should believe in individual freedom, personal responsibility, and liberty. Those are the values that Palin represents. Only in a free society could a person like Adam Lambert or Lady Gaga succeed and become wealthy. You won’t people like them succeed in places like China, or Iran, or Syria, or the old USSR.
Bellatrix LeStrange is a whole lot easier on the eyes than the First Wookiee. And probably not as crazy.
I’ll be seeing both that weekend. So no need to choose. :)
Watching Harry Potter will not be “sending a message” like it will be when I watch “Undefeated” on July 15. Harry can wait until the 16th. He’ll still be there.

If you know your way around The HP series, you’ll get a kick out of it.
