This came from Salon? Dang.
There are some other items out there that slow down depletion. For example we are going to be replacing all of our lighting systems with LEDs. You take a decade and not only will you not see incandescent lights, you won't see fluorescent lights either! Computer systems are also becoming more powerful while using less power and generating less heat ~ and with flexible circuits and color e-ink (or equivalent) systems, hold the promise of eliminating the need for paint on interior wall surfaces.
If you can get rid of paint you eliminate a vast number of distillates and evaporates. Low power display processes reduce power requirements.
It is entirely possible that we've already passed "peak electrical demand"!
Things that you go “Hmmmmmn.”
(Never mind the inconvenient truth that CAGW isn’t happening. We’ve been cooling since 1998 ... and today’s (last month’s actually) temperature show a whopping, huge, tremendous, awe-uninspiring total of 0.1 degree C warming. Since the baseline 1970’s low point.)
