Take a look at this picture from Friday, April 29th. President Obama is greeting Brig. Gen. Ed Wilson after Air Force One landed at Cape Canaveral: Seems pretty ordinary, right? A typical tarmac greet for the Commander-in-Chief.
But there may be a little more to the brief moment at the bottom of the airstairs.
The state-owned Italian television channel Rai News has posted a video that highlights a curious exchange between the two men:

It’s a cool tradition. I am a member of Epsilon Pi Phi and I am just waiting to get mine so I can exchange them.
I have been given half a dozen challenge coins in my life as well as giving them. I can’t ever remember doing it in a covert fashion like this. Generally if someone hands you something that is innocuous like a challenge coin, you acknowledge it by looking at it and thanking them. You don’t exchange them in handshake and just pocket it like nothing happened.
What’s odd to me is that our anti-military president would adopt ANY tradition that smacks of supporting the military.
