It’s all good when it’s “your men” doing the dirty work eh? Well your Sheriff doesn’t exactly have a clean record and is under investigation by the FBI....
Joseph M. “Joe” Arpaio (born June 14, 1932) is the elected Sheriff of Maricopa County in the U.S. state of Arizona. First voted into office in 1992 Arpaio is responsible for law enforcement in Maricopa County. This includes management of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, county jail, courtroom security, prisoner transport, service of warrants, and service of process. Arpaio promotes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff.”[1][2] He is well known for his outspoken stance against illegal immigration.[3] Arpaio has become a flashpoint for controversy surrounding Arizona’s SB1070 anti-illegal immigration act.[4]
Arpaio is currently the subject of FBI,[5] United States Department of Justice,[6] and Federal Grand Jury[7] investigations for civil rights violations and abuse of power, and is the defendant in a federal class-action suit for racial profiling.[8]
Arpaio has become controversial for aggressive publicity-seeking,[9] retaliation against political enemies,[10] abuse of power,[11] civil rights violations,[12] and financial mismanagement.[13]
Arpaio was once widely popular among voters in Arizona.[14] However, his popularity has waned since 2007.[15]
I closed my laptop yesterday afternoon with your post (the third on this thread) the latest one. I was wondering what kind of reaction your post would elicit. When my laptop resumed this morning, I see that, faithfully, FR has given you no slack.
Your posts in defense of your original statement demonstrate a fairly obvious lack of critical thinking, to put it mildly. To react with ‘What ever happened to free speech?’ shows your youth in terms of logic and debate, as well as “length of service” here on FreeRepublic. Free speech? What does a constitutional freedom granted to its ctizens offering preventing the government silencing voices of dissent have to do with an inane, random thought posted on a privately held web site? This was the second clue that you’re not able to demonstrate FR-level thinking and analysis.
So then you finally post (rather, lazily copy/pasted - as evidenced by the non-linked footnotes plainly following the verbatim source) comments about how the sheriff is under investigation by the FBI for abuse of power and racial profiling.
FreeRepublic.com is the big leagues, champ. we make it a habit of understanding not just the ‘What’, but the ‘Why’s and the ‘Who’s. In this case, it doesn’t take too much to understand that the FBI investigation is merely a reaction by the Eric Holder Justice Department to the Sheriff’s effective tactics to curb crime within his jurisdiction.
As for posting wikipedia-sourced content (I am assuming that’s where your quote is from, but you didn’t provide a link), well, while wikipedia is fantastic for non-political matters (like what engines were available in 1969 Mustangs), it slants rather obviously to the left in matters of political discourse. That you used it as a source for argument here on FreeRepublic signals to me that you might be a member of the wrong forum.
