...The August 19 date on that chart is incorrect—there is now a letter above from the University on this thread confirming that the correct date is September 19.

Not so fast...they blamed the 'mistake' on an employee...who transcribed the wrong date. TWICE. Well, 'they' would, wouldn't they? After presenting something clearly impossible, as their own 1961 calendar shows semester commencement as September 25, 'they' had to blame the typist. And the correction they made was SEPTEMBER 19. Still WRONG. Wrong by only six days, but STILL WRONG. All 'they' changed was an 8 into a 9. I am still not convinced there isn't some skullduggery going on.

I don't think so. The 25th was the day classes started. For night school people registered the week before. The 19th would have been one of the biggest dates.

If you look at the transcript entry for the next quarter, I believe it shows a start date in December because that was when registration took place and would have taken place in the ordinary course of business. The actual start date for class was in the first week in January. Same same.

The practice showed the registration date for extension (night school) classes as the start date.

From the University of Washington Catalogs 1961-1963:

Autumn Quarter, 1961
Aug. 1 - Deadline for ALL new students to submit Applications for Admission with complete credentials.
Sept. 7-22 In-Person Registration for ALL new students.
Sept. 25-Monday Instruction begins
Dec. 12-Tuesday Quarter ends

Winter Quarter, 1962
Jan. 2-Tuesday Instruction begins
Mar. 15-Thursday Quarter ends

Spring Quarter, 1962
Mar. 26-Monday Instruction begins
June 7-Thursday Quarter ends

The problem is, Stanley Ann Dunham Obama did NOT attend either the Autumn or Winter Quarters. She was enrolled in Extension Courses until the Spring of 1962. Extension courses do not always follow the same schedule, therefore dates are shown on a transcript.

For example, in the Lynnwood Enterprise, Lynnwood, Washington, Wednesday, September 06, 1961 on page 6: "He is attending a two-week seesion of intensive graduate study sponsored by the American Savings & Loan Institue at the University of Washington from Sept. 3-16."

FROM SADO's TRANSCRIPT:

Extension/Independent Stdy/Advance Placement Credit:

University of Washington Extension Courses: Spring 1962: Note the difference for the first four courses and the Spring courses. The earlier ones are listed as "Extension Courses" with dates. The Spring courses are shown without dates. Also note, that grades of 'A's were received for the extension courses and only two of her three classes were completed with 'B's in the Spring.

Given that not just one, but two different classes are entered with starting dates of August 19, and normal fall classes did NOT begin on September 19, Stanley Ann was quite obviously in Seattle on August 19, 1961 as documented by the University of Washington! The question is, did she fly to Seattle from Honolulu or Kenya (as stated by her friends from Mercer Island)?
