Forget primary elections and party caucuses. In many ways, the long, strange trip to picking major party presidential candidates is one of self-selection.
How so? Like how they focus attention on themselves in ways that appear how to put this delicately obsessively weird.
Which brings us, quite logically, to Donald Trump and Sarah Palin.
The billionaire developer and reality show star has been going on and on about President Obamas place of birth, claiming now that hes sent investigators to Hawaii to find out the truth. And now hes gotten into a snit with a New York Times columnist over the subject.
Hello? Did Trump not think that his hometown newspaper might find what seems at the moment to be his main campaign issue obsessively weird?
In her typically funny op-ed column, Gail Collins at the New York Times had had it with Trump.
In a potential Republican field that includes Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich, its hard to come up with a line of attack loopy enough to stand out from the pack. But darned if Trump didnt manage to find one, she wrote the other day.
Then she hammered Trump on the two things hes best known for.
Trumps main argument for why he should be taken seriously as a presidential contender is his business success. Has Obama ever hosted a long-running reality series? Owned a bankruptcy-bound chain of casinos? Put his name on a flock of really unattractive high-rise apartment buildings? No!
Celebrity Apprentice is widely regarded as terrible and cheesy programming, but, actually, it has its moments. I recently saw an episode in which a former top model had a serious discussion with a fellow competitor about whether this was the 20th century or the 21st.....

I dunno how you can claim she’s a birther when she just said, she believe Obama is born in Hawaii since his name was posted in the local newspaper. She was just curious as to why OBama would spend $2 million to hide his birth certificate
I know I'm sitting here with my mouth hanging open.
I've poll numbers on the question at 30-60% who express some level of doubt about Obama's life history so it's hardly a fringe issue. Typical Alinsky tactic.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Sounds like the percentage of Americans "who express some level of doubt" is about the same as the percentage of "climate scientists" who joined "the consensus of opinion" about man-made global warming.
They accused her of MURDER because her SarahPAC website “targeted” a certain Arizona congresswoman’s district. Do you really think there’s anything they won’t do to destroy her?
No. She has never bought into the birther conspiracy. She simply said she was fine with Trump investigating it. She has said before that she didn’t buy it, and thought it was not the important thing to worry about.
But she has always been respectful of those who wanted to pursue it.
Palin was simply acknowledging that there a Birthers out there like Trump, who she respectfully disagree with. She was being diplomatic about it, which CSM view as somehow an endorsement of his view. Palin is not in a habit of bad mouthing others unless they start attacking her first
Sarah Palin- Damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. Now whatever Trump does or says is her doing as well.
Can't we think up a derogatory term for describing the Obama worshiping media, like “The Fantasists” ?
When I see Trump go after Soros, then he’ll gain some credibility.
How about “JournoPimps”?
Yeah...those people who run around looking for FACTS and TRUTH are really annoying, aren’t they CSM. Is that why you never bother with it yourselves??
“Typical Alinsky tactic”
You know, that just goes to prove the paucity of ideas that the left has to work with.
That Alinsky jazz might have worked pretty well in the Chicago stockyards during the ‘50’s and ‘60’s but to try to take that childish nonsense and expand it to include the entire American voting public is pretty damn dumb.
The lefties had better come up with a new playbook because they are fast becoming a laughingstock everywhere except in slums, colleges, and union meetings.
How about "credulists"? It's a real but obscure neologism describing adherents to Swinburne's credulity principle, which I believe is a fair reference with regard to the MSM and their Obama.
That it was from Kenya? That his father was NOT Obama? That he was (and still is) a bastard? Many interesting and potentially damning tidbits could be concealed on that document.
If you can say she was a birther before she was not a birther and is now a birther.
Who the heck knows?
And THAT is the question which will win this thing for us if we can put it front and center.
But even useful-idiot liberals will be curious (if the fact is pounded) about WHY Obama has SPENT SO MUCH to keep the long-form from being made public.
