Donald Trump for president movement hits Park City's Main Street

The Donald would get at least one vote in Park City if he were to mount a White House campaign.

A Deer Valley resident this week launched a one-man political event on Main Street in support of a run for the presidency by Donald Trump, the real estate mogul and reality-television star.

Robert Novak, carrying pro-Trump signs, took up residency close to Miners Park midday on Thursday, the second day he was on Main Street rallying for a Trump campaign.

He said he plans to be on Main Street supporting Trump for two hours in the middle of the day Mondays through Fridays for the foreseeable future. Novak said Trump has the attributes he looks for in a political leader.

"That's exactly why I support him. He's not a politician," Novak said. "He's a capitalist. He's been to the school of hard knocks."

Novak, who aligns himself politically with the Tea Party movement, acknowledged that he is unaware if there is a wider movement in support of Trump in the Park City area. He does not plan to lead a pro-Trump network.

He said Republican politicians seen as likely contenders for the party's nomination in 2012, including Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, do not match Trump.

"He's got guts. I don't believe there's anybody who can corrupt him. I think he's uncorruptable. That's something we haven't seen in a while," Novak said.

Novak said Trump would be "no nonsense" and "straightforward" as the president. He said Trump would use his business background to strengthen the nation's financial situation. Novak said he would expect Trump would "carefully slash spending."

On Thursday he carried a two-sided sign with red lettering. The message on one side read "Get rid of the regime in Washington DC! Trump in 2012." The other side's message read "Donald Trumps Obama in 2012." An American flag was affixed to the top of the sign.

The crowds on Main Street appeared to be surprised to see Novak, with drivers slowing down to look as they passed and pedestrians stopping to read the sign. A few people spoke about him as they went by while some of the drivers honked at him. He said messages included people asking him to keep up the good work.

Novak said the comments from the passers-by were "mostly positive." He said one person close to the Main Street post office, though, told him on Thursday to "go back to Cuba, you commie."

"Some people don't like winners, and he is a winner," Novak said. "Some people can't stand that."

There has been little presidential-level politicking occurring in the Park City area in anticipation of the 2012 campaign even as the earliest of the primaries and caucuses are less than a year away. There was widespread local interest in the early months of the 2008 campaign as top-tier politicians visited Park City on fundraising trips.

Novak is not sure how much support a movement to draft Trump for a campaign will receive in Park City. The city has long had Democratic leanings.

"This is a Democratic town," he said. "I'm fighting uphill."

I think I'll do the same thing for Gov. Sarah Palin.

Trump is on the rise. He’s a go getter. All I see from everyone else are pretty tame and who are DC statist types.

I know. Teleprompted and afraid to say what is on their mind. I hate it.

The more I hear Trump the more I like... both what he says and HOW he says it - straight and to the point.

Out of all the potential candidates, he would get my vote today.

Except for Cain, who at least recognizes there may be a problem, ALL the rest are spineless in regards to eligibility.

I like him! I think he is a different man from several years ago. If he launches, I will fight for this man! We need some drastic folks to regain our country from the literal communist takeover that has already happened! Let’s roll!

Trump is a fraud.
***************

And you know this for sure, right. I personally don’t give a damn if you’re right or not, the guy is tweaking a lot of people who need tweaking, has more brass b@lls than any politician I’ve seen, and is bringing up a subject that needs exposure, that’s worth it in my book. So far he’s batting 1000 and I’m loving how he’s p!ssing off the establishment. So if he’s a fraud as you say, he’s still making the talking heads and MSM pretty angry and that’s worth it for me.

I agree with this. He may be what we need at this time.

He can lead. None of the others in the GOP field are leaders. They are all politicians. Trump actually runs things.

Why couldn’t he figure it out three years ago, when he could have made a difference?
