Men like Obama have been ruining the public relations of decent black men for decades. He's only the latest in a long line of black men (both known, and unknown) who have engendered distrust and disdain for everyone who looks like them.
I'm a direct recipient of that mistrust and antipathy. My fathers fought the evil of real institutionalized racism to elevate themselves and their children into a better life. They taught me that I'd have to work twice as hard to get half as far as my white peers, because that was their life experience.
Things changed for my generation, and I walked through doors that my fathers had opened, decades before me. It now appears that I will have to fight like hell to keep those doors open for my own sons, except my fight is far different than my fathers'.

Well, of course, I know that. I didn't mention the upstanding black Americans, because that wasn't what the poster was talking about.
There are a lot of good black men (and women) in this country, and some of them are well-known, outstanding people. You listed a few (thank you for the compliment), and there are countless others who quietly go about the business of contributing to our grand American experiment.
However, they do face the added burden of having to overcome the negative stereotypes that Obama and his ilk have created. It's just one more battle to fight...sigh...
Any normal person can say, "I agree because...." or "I disagree because...."
To say at this juncture in the debate that "I haven't had time to study this ..." is unmitigated hosshiite.
Acceptable answer: "I have seen the evidence, and frankly, I believe the courts have let us down in denying this issue a fair hearing on its merits. I also think the President is being less than helpful." Bloodless. Namby-Pamby enough for any man! It disappoints me that not one major Republican on the national scene will not go at least this far. This eligibility issue is simply a question that needs to be answered.

Read “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” by Dinesh D’Souza.
It is only about 220 pages and goes fast.
The only knock I have on it is that D’Souza accepts Obama’s authorship of his books, especially “Dreams,” which is where he expresses his anti-colonialism..
I think the most likely scenario was that Obama provided and oral narrative and Ayers created the actual text.
I am not black so I really don’t know for sure but it seems logical that if Herman Cain and Obama held a debate before a largely American black audience, the difference between the two would be stark. I refer to what they would say, not how they look.
I would guess that group psychology would spur the audience to cheer for the liberal 0 but they could easily see which man had gone through a more typical black American experience.
Obama, it should be remembered, was called “inauthentic” by Bobby Rush when he ran for Congress in Chicago in 2000.
