I am not really sure of Trumps motivations here. If nothing else, Trump is schooling republicans on how to win and why they lose in the world today.

Paul & Trump have too similar backgrounds to put them on the same ticket. Trump has the national & foreign economic policy experience. We need someone who has experience in military command as well as military foreign policy for a well balanced ticket. That person with the military experience must also have Trump’s quality of not letting the media guide the debate, but standing as a statesman with the best interests of the United states & our armed forces FIRST.

You make a worthwhile point, but I wouldn’t have thought of them as having too similar backgrounds. Beyond that, I don’t know Trump’s views on immigration, but I don’t think they’re the same as Sen. Paul’s, as one example.
Experience in military command need not merit a place on the ticket (of vice president and president). We’re meant to have civilian control of the military (because our military is meant to be citizen soldiers), so a civilian’s recognition of good military commanders as advisers and as having subordinate responsibility for the War Department is enough for me.

I believe Rand Paul does already. And I think that either he or Trump would be able to assess which military commanders should be promoted, consulted, or both.
I could have sworn I heard otherwise. Good to know, though.
