Donald Trump and the Birth Certificate

Yes, that birth certificate. Donald Trump, the oft-married casino tycoon, is considering a run for the presidency, and he wants to see President Obama's birth certificate. The real one, the so-called long form, not just the certification of live birth, which is not the same thing. With his celebrity status, Donald Trump demanding to see the certificate will force the Obama handlers to tie themselves in knots, again, loudly and publicly, to say that it's none of our business.

I am so tired of otherwise conservative talk show hosts lambasting birthers as knuckle-draggers, idiots, neanderthals. I'm thinking particularly of Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt, Ivy League lawyers whom I otherwise admire. All of the birthers I know are at the right end of the IQ bell curve. The request is perfectly reasonable. Why do these subtle legal minds have difficulty reading Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution? "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." Could not be plainer to me. I think that's what the legal scholars are want to call black-letter law. Why should that clause be passé, infra dig., just way too far outside the mainstream in these oh-so-postmodern times?

Imagine sailing through a barely yellow light and getting stopped by a man in blue.

"May I see your driver's license, sir?"

"Of course I have a driver's license."

"Sir, that's not what I asked. May I see it?"

"What, you don't think I have one?"

"Sir, I'm asking to see your driver's license."

"How dare you question my integrity! I told you I have one!"

"Sir, step out of the car."

And we can all guess what the judge would say when you argue that the officer should mind his own business. But run for the highest office in the land and it's bad form to enquire if the candidate can pass one of the two very low bars to the presidency. Age and natural-born citizenship are low bars. I happen to think that a presidential candidate should pass a background check for a security clearance, because it's s an open question whether Bill Clinton or Barack Hussein Obama would pass such a check, but the Constitution does not require that. Just age and birth. Easily determined.

So to Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved and my other friends on the right, please, stop the gratuitous insults to those of us who wish to see a real, honest-to-goodness birth certificate for the 44th president of these United States. It's not that hard to produce such a document. And to Mr. Trump -- yay!

I also want to see his college and grad school transcripts and any passports and his draft registration forms and all the social security numbers ever listed throughout his many residences.

Trump is doing himself a disservice by only asking about the birth certificate.

He should ask in the next breath - “and by the way, why won’t Obama release any records, from grade school, all the way to his time in the IL Senate?”

The BC is just a distraction... it may contain something embarrassing but I believe it has more to do with his adoption by Soetoro when he moved to Indonesia.

Obama is enjoying the chaos all the foaming at the mouth fits the birthers are going thru in hope it distracts them from the real smoking gun.

All his college applications, paperwork, papers etc... there is the real treasure trove. That’s why Obama is keeping this BC thing alive, cuz once he releases it, it shoots the entire birther movement down and then the only thing left for them to go after is his college days.

Barry lied his ass off while in college, when it was advantageous to him he was a young black American man, then he was a black African born Kenyan, then a muslim from Indonesia.

He lied to get benefits, privileges and political allies while in college.

My hope is that the reason Trump is doing this is to help the real future Republican front runner. He is attempting to force the President to reveal there actually isn’t anything wrong with his birth certificate and thereby prematurely use this carefully planned stunt in order to paint Trump, not the Republican front runner, a bigot for suggesting so. The most plausible reason Obama has let this issue simmer is that he guessed he would have a tough run for a second term and needed something dramatic to again evoke guilt in voters in order to win it for him.

Distraction or not, it’s the only position in the entire nation whose minimal job qualifications are spelled out in the Constitution

If the highest office in the land isn’t held to the most basic of requirements of the Constitution, why should the rest of us bother to adhere to it?

In particular the 16th amendment... Which is itself suspect on proper passage (miswording on the votes held in the states at the time)

Those who raise this issue need to use Obama’s words against him, again and again and again, if need be:
“the only people who want to keep things secret are folks who have something to hide.”

If the president believes this common-sense proposition, then why is he hiding his BC?

Likwise, those who believe that raising the BC question is racist need to be forced to explain how it possibly can be racist to hold the president to his own self-professed standard. If the president expects everyone else to adhere to his standard except himself, isn’t that racist (or at least absurdly self-serving)?

Yeah, I want to see the BC but I also want revealed ALL the documents locked up as a result of that first executive order. I want the whole, ugly “big picture” and I want it yesterday! The only reasonable idea I have is to keep pushing congress to start the investigation and subpoena those records. I don’t understand the logic of waiting and giving this fraud another 2 year to further implement his cloward-piven strategies!

Michael Medved never lets anyone forget that he's an “Ivy”. Did you know that he was in classes with Hillary Clinton? I know that because way back when he started in talk radio here in Seattle, he mentioned it about every third sentence!

So, he won't go after the “birthers’ because they're obviously not as well “edjumacated” as he and Bambi...so they MUST be wrong! That's the whole problem - Axelrod played his cards perfectly early on. Paint anyone who questions The One as a dumb racist crackpot - thereby effectively frightening off anyone who might have a legitimate concern.

Thankfully, Donald Trump doesn't give a da*n and maybe this will finally bring the matter to light, although I've gotten my hopes up too many times before and it all just goes away so I'm not expecting much this time either.

I think it’s more simple than that. Obama actually does have something to hide and he won’t show us and will try anything he can to keep it under wraps. Everything I see points to that...the lawyers, the money, everything. He’s hiding something that may end it all for him.
