I bought a hummingbird feeder. I wonder if anyone knows what I ought to put in the feeder.
Friends of my wife and I have a couple of feeders that have been up for years so there are lots of Hummers that come around on a constant basis. They are awesome birds but my problem is they sound like wasps buzzing by.
When I’m not watching them the buzzing gives me the creeps..
All I do is add 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of hot tap water in a jug. I cap the jug and shake it for 15 seconds or so (until all the sugar dissolves) and that’s it. The little hummers will drain the feeders in no time.
I have noticed that if I add more (or less) than the 1-to-4 sugar-to-water ratio, they won’t like it. That 1-to-4 ratio seems to be the “sweet” spot (no pun intended).
Don’t worry about coloring the sugar water, just leave it clear. You may have to leave it out for quite awhile until they find your feeders. Once they do, they’ll come back every year.
Enjoy!
Thank you!
