Given the facts that;
A)We have massive merchandise trade deficits.
B)We have an unemployment rate of 10% and an underemployment rate over 20%.
We need to produce a whole lot more here.
Not sure if this was “lets make Americans feel good”, or, “more Free Trade Communist BS spin”.
Also,No mention was made of the millions of textile factory jobs (mostly non-union) that have been shipped out of America to Communist China and other places in the last 20 yrs
As long as we have a massive trade deficit with Communist China and the rest of the world....we do not manufacture enough. Those numbers do not lie...and cannot be spun
There are actually a good number of integrated circuits ("chips") that are made in North America, and in the US specifically. However, almost none are placed in their plastic packages here, and have to be sent to Malaysia or the Philippines for that. We engineers joke that the chips have more frequent flier miles than we do :-)
Trade with China needs to be a separate issue from trade in general. Obviously MFN and WTO membership for China was a naive mistake.
You can't have free trade without free people.
